General questions

How can I order?

See the ordering information page for various ways to place your order and send payment.

Delivery: how long does it take, what does it cost?

There are no extra charges for delivery from Clarity: what you see is what you pay. Delivery times will vary a little depending on where you live, though. I'll put your CD-ROM in the post here in the UK within 24 hours of your order; I use Airmail for orders from abroad. I see that the Royal Mail's website says their 'delivery aim' for this is 3 to 5 working days, but I find they take longer than that. If you haven't received your parcel within a couple of weeks, let me know.

Ebooks

What's an 'ebook'?

'Ebook' is short for 'electronic book': it's just a book stored on your computer, like an 'email' is a letter stored on your computer. Because it's stored on computer, it's altogether easier to deliver and work with: if you want to get back to a particular chapter and only remember a few words in it, for instance, you only have to search for the phrase you remember.

How do I get it?

You download it, from Clarity's web server to your computer. It'll take a few minutes or a few seconds, depending on how good your internet connection is, and you can open your book and start reading. With paid products, you're given step-by-step instructions to download as soon as your payment completes.

Will it work on my computer?

Yes. Clarity's ebooks come in simple pdf format, and pretty much every computer nowadays comes with a pdf reader already installed so you can just click these and open them straight away. If your computer doesn't have a pdf reader, you can get one for free from here.

Can I print it out?

Yes. Not every ebook allows you to print; some authors prefer to protect their work. Personally, I find it annoying when there are restrictions placed on an ebook I've bought, so I haven't placed any on mine. You can print, search, copy and paste, have another copy of the file on another computer, etc. I'm lucky enough to have very honest customers, so I've never had a problem doing this.

Audio and video products

What kinds of files are these, and will they work on my computer?

The audio version of the I Ching course comes in mp3 format, which will play on any computer. The downloadable versions of the recorded presentations - 'Journey Imagery', 'Women and Relationships' and 'How to make Change a working part of your life' - can be played in your internet browser. (They're Flash files.)

The only compatibility issue is with the CD-ROM versions of these products, which are for Windows computers only. If you're a Mac user with a dial-up connection and would like to order, get in touch, and we'll see about finding something that will work on your computer. (With a modern Mac, you should be able to use a Windows simulator.)

About downloading

All these files are available for immediate download - you get the download information as soon as your payment's completed. But the files for download are on the large side, up to 30MB. If you have a broadband connection, this won't be a problem; if you only have dial-up, I suggest you order the CD-ROM version to avoid frustration.

I Ching course

No time limit?

That's right, no time limit. Some people complete the course within a month or two, other people take a few years. You can fit the course around the demands of your life - I don't expect you to fit life around the course! There are no extra payments for taking longer.

Is there a qualification?

No, there isn't. Of course I could call myself a 'university', invent an impressive-sounding qualification and sell it. It's not as if this hasn't already been done... But I'd rather not insult your intelligence. What we can do, if you so wish, is to use the last assignment of your course, and/or any extra tuition sessions you purchase, to work on reading for other people. I'll give you my honest comments on how well you're doing, and you are - of course - free to quote me anywhere you please.

Readings and mentoring

Do I need to know the I Ching already?

No, not in the least - not for individual readings nor yet for mentoring. I'll adjust the way I present the reading according to your level of familiarity with the oracle, and I promise not to drown you in jargon. I enjoy working with people who've never heard of the oracle before, just as much as with people who've been consulting it for themselves since before I was born.

What if I want to cast my own hexagrams?

No problem: please do. For phone readings, you can give me a quick call to tell me which hexagrams you've cast. For email readings, there's an optional section of the order form where you can fill in your own reading and thoughts on it. And during mentoring, you can simply email me details of the reading ahead of our weekly call.

How many questions can I ask?

You may be surprised at the amount of information that comes from a single reading - and the number of other questions that get answered along the way. When I'm doing individual readings, I almost always find people feel 'full' of knowledge after a single reading. However, there are situations where it can help to ask a supplementary question - to compare options, for instance - and in these cases you could go for two shorter readings instead of one in-depth. Or you might find that a month's mentoring gives you the time and space you need to sort things out.

If you'd like to get in touch, we can talk about the question or questions that go to the heart of your situation.

I need a reading, but I can't afford one

It's been my experience that there are a couple of reasons why we say 'I can't afford it'. One is that we literally do not have that much money after paying for basic necessities; the other is that even though we have the money, we have different priorities for spending it.

So... if you're not sure what priority to give to an I Ching reading - and I agree, it's not easy to categorise - might I suggest you try one and see? Remember, there is a money-back guarantee. This means you can order a reading, or get started with a couple of months of mentoring, and get your money back if you're anything less than delighted with the results.

If you literally don't have the money to order a reading in the first place, then please contact me. Every month, I'll do one or two free readings for people who can't pay. Money's meant to help exchange and communication between us; it won't get in the way.

What about phone charges?

Simple: I call you. No long distance charges, no premium rate lines and heart-stopping phone bills... the price you see is all you pay. (And no time limits, either: it's important to me that you should have all the time you need.)

I'd like a full-length phone reading, but I don't have three hours to spare!

We can arrange to make the two calls on different days: discussing the question for half an hour on Saturday, say, and completing the reading for an hour on Sunday. (Yes, I am available at weekends!)

What about international time differences?

Just tell me your timezone and the times you'd prefer to be called. I work long and flexible hours, so I'll usually be able to accommodate you. If we can't find a time during my waking hours when you're available, there are always email readings.

What kind of record will I have of my reading?

I'll record our conversation(s), so you can listen and familiarise yourself with it whenever and wherever you choose. I can post it to you on CD, or send it as an email attachment or download (which is quicker, of course) - whichever you'd prefer. If you'd also like a chart of the hexagrams involved in your reading, just let me know.
