How to use the free reading

  1. Let your question take shape in your mind - and write it down.
  2. Click the 'New I Ching reading' button and a small pop-up window will appear
  3. Click on the 'Consult' button. The hexagram(s) of your answer will appear in the popup window. Any lines shown in red are changing lines.
  4. Click the ‘Hexagram 1’ button to replace this window with your primary hexagram. (Use the 'back' button on your browser to return to this page.)
    Read the Judgement and Image first. Of the line texts, only the ones associated with your changing lines are part of your answer. Hexagram lines are numbered 1-6 from the bottom up, so be sure to follow this convention in order to refer to the right line texts!
  5. Click the ‘Hexagram 2’ button for your relating hexagram. Only the Judgement and Image of this hexagram form part of your answer (not the line texts).
  6. Make a note of the numbers of the hexagrams you received. (Noting the numbers rather than just the hexagram names is important as different translations have different versions of the names!) Then you can take your free I Ching reading further if you wish.
