I Ching Prescriptions are a different way of consulting the I Ching. The traditional method for using the counsel of I Ching is by throwing three coins six times or by dividing and counting yarrow stalks to arrive at a hexagram for an answer to a question. This method of allowing chance to provide an appropriate response to what is on your mind at the time relies on a phenomenon that Carl Jung called synchronicity. Many people wonder how could anyone take seriously an answer to a question arrived at by tossing coins and decide that the I Ching is not for them. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in synchronicity or not. It doesn’t matter if you want to take the time to figure out the obscurity or understand the poetic symbolic language of the I Ching. When people dismiss the I Ching because of the method of relying on random chance they miss out on the philosophy that is imbedded within the I Ching that originated over five thousands years of Chinese culture. A philosophy that has survived for thousands of years has a message worth pondering. Since the philosophy of I Ching is based on nature and has lasted so many thousands of years and transferred over many cultures, why not benefit from its wisdom whether you believe in synchronicity or not? Find an I Ching Prescription for your need of the moment. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1884178251/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_alp_TpiVnb02YK6AG)

What's in the book Luis? Maybe how to diagnose your problems using I Ching philosophy?

I don't have the book, sorry. But here's some more information from Adele's site (http://www.ichingmeditations.com/?p=2013). Ask her, she'll answer you.

No doubt Luis likes the book...or the site. The site is full of drawings of half naked ladies wearing alot of rather bright lipstick :rolleyes: :rofl: (and now hes corrupted Tom !) http://www.ichingmeditations.com/?page_id=529

From what i could see the actual text of the I Ching is removed and replaced just by her own words ...her impression of the I Ching

People who find Nigel Richmond useful might like it....or not

Thanks, Trojan. I need to explore this site further :) The question I posted to Adele is "Please, how is the issue connected to the prescription? Do symptoms of the issue guide one to a prescription?" Apparently,

issue = query
prescription = hexagram

But I don't see how, using Adele's medical analogy, one gets a hexagram. Somehow, features of the issue (symptoms) lead to a hexagram (prescription). At the moment I am told that my comment is awaiting moderation. It's like passing time in the doctor's waiting room.

Hey! I am deeply offended. I visit the site for the articles!!! :rant: :rofl:

Joking aside, Adele is a very good visual artist.

Well, yes, of course it is her impression of the I Ching but, as Bradford pointed out yesterday in another thread, she's got the age and some four decades of accumulated Yijing experience. I think that accounts for quite a bit. In the end, she's communicating her experience with the oracle and what works for her. I'm sure that experience resonates with a number of people.

Adele promptly responded to my questions, and I think she may add an example to her blog. I asked about how to prescribe for a broken heart, and she suggested hexagram 23, so I think that when confronted with an issue, using her approach one considers the whole range of hexagram possibilities and picks the one that seems most relevant.

isn't that what Chris Lofting used to do ? something slightly like that ?

doesn't it amount to not consulting the I Ching at all and consulting a person instead ?

A person decides on 23 instead of the oracle ........

Yes, Lofting did something similar. He claimed that by asking questions one could arrive at a hexagram as he redefined them. Adele, I'd guess, sees an aesthetic identity between the situation and a hexagram. In both cases the goal is to determine a hexagram objectively rather than by chance. I confess that my divinations are somewhat similar. A hexagram is an amorphous thing with an indefinite range of interpretations. Although the hexagram is determined by chance, I use objective features of the situation to settle upon a specific interpretations. For me, the querent ultimately determines the interpretation.

To get a flavour of Adele's approach to the I Ching , read her story about H.64
It's linked in her article ''In memory of Jose Arguelles''
