?Destiny? is sitting in a dim stone room at an old wooden table. She is an old woman. She has a fine boned face, nut brown from the weather; strong grey hair and a stern mouth from years of care and struggle. Her 'now grey eyes' are clear and steady, they are bright and still.

Destiny is good with healing herbs. She lives alone in a village where she helps to birth babies, does what healing she can and gives guidance, to those who come and ask.

Sitting accross the table from her is a beautiful ageless woman. She is dressed in a fine black hooded robe. On a silver thread arround her neck is a single white glittering stone. Her name is Lady Fate.

Her fine jet black garment makes destiny's peasant weave gown look shabby and coarse.

Nearby, in the shadows, are people, looking on silently, barely breathing in the tensed moment.

?Well?? Says Lady Fate.

Destiny stares into her cool unblinking eyes for as long as possible; then looks down at the pack of cards between them on the table.

?I want a new deck, this one is probably loaded.? She says.

Lady Fate smiles slightly and then looks at the deck of cards on the table, almost sadly, before looking up at Destiny once more. ?But it is loaded. It is loaded with your past actions, the ones you chose to do. These are your cards.?

Destiny?s eyes widened? a sense of nervous guilt pervaded her? her back and face felt cold and clammy. ?Then I won?t pick one. I want a new deck.? she said quietly.

Fate slowly shook her head, ?Would you have me pick it for you?? She throws back her head and laughs emptily. ?Would you really have me, Lady Fate pick your next card??

Shakily Destiny reaches a hand to the deck, her mouth stern and her eyes steady on the face of Fate. She pauses, "but it is said that you sometimes play another card on top of the chosen one." Gripping the sides she cuts it; placing an upturned card on the table.

?Ahhh, gooood, Hexagrams 61:62.? Breaths Lady Fate as she too begins to reach for the cards. Just as she is about to touch the deck she quickly withdraws her hand. Laughing she rises from the table, turns her back and darkness grows in the room.

Destiny woke from a dream, she had been out picking berries and had taken a nap? it was dusk, the dew was falling. She felt cold, stiff and damp.

Cursing the chill she rubbed her face then put her head back to pull the hair from her into a bundle behind her head? She caught site of a single large black bird; distant and flying away from her. ?It is dusk, it is returning to its nest.? She told herself. She heard its single faint cry as she turned to make for her warm hearth.

?61:62, Why dream of that!? She thought.

I hope to post 61:62 later tonight.

Still working on it...

The Yi told me to stop bugerring about and do it as a formal thing and not a story though...http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/messages/6331/1784.gif

oh but it's so pretty as a story, and so moving. what does the yi mean by 'formal' anyway? stories have a long tradition as ways of explaining things, so they can also be formal i guess.

things never seen before - sounds like beginner's mind. enjoy the ride, and please report from time to time?

love,
xx sl
