I held off hoping someone else would help you with this, but it looks like it's not going to happen. It's kind of a tough question for me. Here's my take (for what it's worth).

I think that you're getting 40 repeatedly because you should and/or will carry out the meaning of 40 by doing what you are asking about doing. That is, I think you are in a difficult situation and are doing what is required to cope with it. So, your answers indicated this, especially, I think, in the repetition of line 6.

The repeated lines 1 and 5 are telling you that your ideas are the right (or necessary, at least) things to do. Line 3 is warning you against possibly making the situation worse by your own action (so to your second question, 1 + 5 indicate "Yes, do that" but 3 is a warning to be cautious, not sure precisely about what - maybe who you choose as a roomate or how you deal with the rent manager? Something like that, I think.)

Not quite sure about line 4, it *might* be saying yes, quit the job IF you can get one you like better that also fills the financial gap. (I'm really really hesitant to suggest to someone in difficult financial straits that they quit a job they have... interpretation is an art not a science, and I would HATE to give you bad advice about that!)

Anyhow, those are my thoughts, hope they helped... btw, I use mostly W/B and Legge so my interpretations are based on what I'm seeing in those translations.

Anonymous.

All your questions above to the Yi are asking for a Yes/No answer. The Yi doesn't work that way. It guides you as to the way to live, both in the outer world and your inner world, in order to achieve the best possible outcome to your situation.

Perhaps you might spend some time working on how to pose your questions.

But having said that, it's interesting that you have received 40 so many times. I've been there too with Hex 5.

Hex 40 to me is about Deliverance, Obstacles Removed, Difficulties Resolved, but it cautions you to accept that your Deliverance is only just beginning, and that you must avoid the temptation to force the issue. It also suggests that you accept that you are responsible for the difficulties you have encountered, and advises you to be still, let go of any attachment to the outcome of your actions, and be content in allowing the Creative to be in control of the unfolding of events.

Be like the farmer who when ploughing the field, concentrates on the ploughing and lets the harvest take care of itself.
