I have been wearing one of my other hats, and have been looking for math puzzles. The I Ching must have felt like playing with puzzles too, and put a piece about the Lo Shu River diagram in my path.
Now I've seen the diagram with little circles and lines countless times, as in
this (http://www.roma.unisa.edu.au/07305/magicsq.htm),
but I learn that these are knotted pieces of rope! Or anyway, my source claims that.
Anyone know about divination with knotted pieces of rope?

With a knotted rope? It's not a divination, as far as I know; it is a method to "dig your unconscious". You ask a question and then close your eyes and "walk" with your fingers by the rope. When you meet a know, an image flashes in your mind. Then another. Usually 9 knots are used. Remembering all images come, you can see, which one is the most "shallow", and which is most "deep".
