I inquire how will my career for this year 2003 going to be and I receive primary 57 with third line as my moving line AND Squared Red Dot on 1st and 4th! Then my next hexagram change to 59 with 2 more red square dot on 2nd and 4th. Do I read the red square dots as well? What does it mean?

Hope to see some reply pretty soon as it's mind perplexing.

Thankyou and a very Happy 2003 to all.

Hello Jml,

No, you don't have to read the lines with the red dots. Those are the 'ruling lines' of the hexagram - they're the same in every reading, not connected with which lines are moving in any way.

The idea is that 'ruling lines' are the most important in defining the meaning of the hexagram. In practice, I haven't found them to be very important in divination (though I'm sure someone will disagree!). So just read your moving line - 57,3. Maybe it's suggesting that you don't need to push so hard or try to see so far ahead? (Just a thought!)

A very Happy New Year to you, too!

Interesting point, Hilary. Same conclusion I've come to about asking Ching for a reading for the coming year. I'm not saying I think its folly necessarily, just that the distant future is not ours to see. What's in store for us? 365 days, if we remain here for the year.

My New Year's wish is simple: May you have good health and love. The rest is gravy.
