I did a reading for the upcoming day early this morning and received 52 line 6 to 15.
After a few hours, I asked Yi to please bear with me, and threw again for assurance of understanding, same question. 52 line 6 to 15.
Anyone know the exact odds of this ?coincidence??
Master Yi, you never cease to amaze me.

Hi Candid,
I believe its 1 in 4,096.

Now, what are the odds for receiving the same answer in succession in response to the same question?
(Spot the trick question http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/biggrin.gif)

Hi Hilary,
Beyond my math skills, you tricky rascal!http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/bounce.gif

Leonard - I'm no math genius (understatement!) but when the change lines are included in the equation, its got to be much greater than 4,096 to 1.
I realize this isn't all that unusual of a happenstance, especially given the same question (winks to Hilary) but it struck my funny bone this morning.

Dear Candid,
You asked, I answered, you doubt my answer. Fair enough, I question all things myself. According to my calculations there are 4,096 possible interrelationships, and that includes the change lines. I have no more information at the moment. I'm sure that there are members of this forum who can go through the math on this step by step for you, I just don't happen to be one of them.

Remo? He's our probability supremo. But actually, the real fun here is less in the sums than in getting clear what you're asking about - for instance, whether it's the likelihood of getting any given reading twice in a row, or the likelihood of getting that one particular reading twice. I think. Or something. This from someone who fled screaming from maths at the age of 15, so take it with a pinch of salt. Leonard, you have a degree in something a tad more relevant, don't you? http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/wink.gif
The huge joke, though, is that no one can put the fact that it was a response to the same question into their probabilistic calculations. It's like trying to multiply green by Tuesday and divide the product by the happiness of a wet dog. If you see what I mean http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/happy.gif

The odds are skazillion to one prolly. Add in the wet happy dog and you have a bunch more. Not exactly scientific but it feels close to right. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/clown.gif

Candid-
That is so cool! Yi saying, "listen man, I just told you...." That has never happened to me, nor have I ever heard that before, although I do go through phases of getting the same hex over and over during a short period of time and then won't see it again for a long long time. I had the idea a few days ago to look back through my journals(I have always kept an I Ching journal) and see if there are in fact any hex's I have never received. I will post when I do this... Have fun with that reading... Peace - Brian

Hi,
Happened to me, happened to me. Just recently when I asked the Yi about the future of my painting abroad -- asked twice and got 31 line 5 to 62 both first and second throws. So I just didn't ak the third time as I usually do -- the same question.
Best for your Quest

Oh yes, the happiness of a wet dog. But is that the happines of the dog itself, or the happiness of having a wet dog with you? and which is the greater?
I now have the image of wet smelly dog on a summers day to give me a smile anytime today that I think I need one.
thanks
Binz
PS. dogs don't smell right until they're wet.
PPS. Am I strange because I like the smell of 'our' dogs feet (when they're dry!)?

Binz, because of you I just went and smelled my dogs' feet. They were quite startled by the proceeding. Definitely a footy smell -- but good, like everything about my dogs. They smell good wet, good dry, good everything. Even when they're all gunky, like when Molly clambers up on me and plops her head on my shoulder for a rest after she's been playing really hard. You know, tongue hanging out, panting like a little steam engine. I tell her, "Whew! You smell like a DOG!"

good to hear it. This means;
1) we're both 'normal', or
2) we're both strange
I wonder why smelling feet should startle dogs - after all, look what they sniff on each other!!!
so, are the feet the best smelling part of a dog?
I know which is the worst smelling part of 'our' dog, Che, and I've never put my nose close to it nor ever intend to!

My wet dogs don't smell! http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/angry.gif But then, they don't multiply either. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/howmuch.gif Well, they used to but the gals were 'fixed'.

I just woke up from a dream where I had a huge bear for a pet. Now see what you've done? He wasn't wet though.
