Hi

I've been having a run of bad luck lately.
I asked the Yi if things would improve soon.
I received #42 no lines.
From what I can make of the interpretation, things appear to be changing for the better, but honestly,I don't really understand the hexagram.(using Wilhelm-Baynes)

Could someone please explain this hexagram in layman's terms?
Gosh, I hope what I intuited from the reading is right.*fingers crossed*

Dear Lynx,
So sorry about the bad luck!
Generally "yes or no?" questions are found to give ambiguous answers. Still 42 is a very positive responce to your question, "Will things improve soon?" Increase points out that bad times do not last forever and that eventually good returns. It further gives suggestions about how one can align with the positive flow:

If the Superior man sees good he imitates it.

So make a point of acknowledging what ever is working in your life right now, even if the only thing you can come up with is that that's a real nice shade of red on that can of tomato soup.

If the Superior man has faults, he rids himself of them.

Ie. throw out all the old clutter.

THEN FOLLOW THE LEAD THAT COMES TO YOU
( My experience is that when you get a hexagram with no change line you can assume that you are to meditate on the situation discribed until the ahha moment comes to you on an inner level. You don't just figure it out, you live it out.

I agree with Rosada's good comments. Expanding a bit, I would add: put a little less emphasis on luck and what is happening TO you and a little more emphasis on goal-directed behavior towards what you want. Then you will have some criteria for weighing what to adopt and what to get rid of. Uncross your fingers so that you can make things happen with your hands. The Judgment says that the rewards come by way of having somewhere to go, across some sort of great stream. Set some goals.
