Perhaps this has been asked before, if so can someone point me in the right direction....
When receiving hexagram 8 is one being directly encouraged to ask other questions ? Is it a recommendaton to ask other questions, because I usually don't.

When I look to the original Chinese text, I cannot find anything about asking again. Rather like 'source of oracle-consulting'. Maybe it can be translated different too, but I don't think 'inquire again' can be the only option.

My old James Legge edition of the I Ching advises
the questioner to "re-examine himself, (as if) by
divination". Legge writes "as if" between brackets, which perhaps indicates that he wasn't completely sure about the meaning of the text:
Does it say "by divination" or "as if by divination"?
In my experience hexagram 8 often appears
in archetypal situations that are somehow bigger
than life, as if you are living a Jungian dream.
Perhaps the I Ching advises examination of yourself (by whatever means) to see if you are up
to these big themes.
The question is, I think: Can you let it happen?

I think "examine yourself to see if your intent is pure" expresses the meaning. If that means consulting again, good. If you can adjust yourself to the proper intent just by considering it may need adjustment, so much the better.
By establishing the proper mindset, we are better able to cultivate friendly relations, and are able to rise to the occasion of leadership among those who hold together with us.

Thanks all http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/happy.gifHaving relocated, I am now asking if I should go back from whence I came(sigh)and got 8, line 1. This will require further deliberation I think, but maybe not too much, since hex 8 warns agains hesitancy. Thankyou for your thoughts, it seems you agree that the 'asking again' does not literally always mean consulting again.

thats the problem with Wilhelm, he seems to know stuff no other translators speak of. Maybe it was his master or maybe he just made it up based on his own conviction.
Anyway, to balance this we have 49:5, where the superior man doesnt evene need to ask the oracle
