Help needed translating some Chinese book titles

Hi All:

I need help with translating the titles of eight books I bought some years ago at an auction. I bought them on an impulse and I know they contain a wealth of information that is not readily available in western translations. They are all Yi related.

One of my goals is to learn Chinese but I'm not there yet. Could someone here translate the titles for me?

Sorry I cant help on the translation, the most I can do is copy paste chinese characters into zhongwen or babelfish (altavista's), but I have no means of locating a particular character just by looking at it (I see the changes character there, but that you know already)
Anyway, you got me mouth watering with "I should add that the books are full of graphics that I have not seen anywhere else in western translations and they look very interesting"
Could you please elaborate a little further on the graphics thing? what type of graphics are they, anything you care to comment?

Regarding the graphics, I plan to scan most of them and eventually post them on my site to share with the Yi community. I'm not there yet though. Don't have much time but I will do it little by little.

I cannot comment much about the graphics because I cannot read the text attached to them. Visually they are quite interesting.

Thats great of you, I look forward to see anything you'd like to share, and from what you describe in your little story, these books may be filled with priceless wisdom, at least I take it that anyone writing 8 books on the changes must have something important to say...

Just from the little information I was able to find on him, Mr. Cheng was a very interesting and dedicated person.

yi-022: the second character of the four big ones in the center is "study": two crosses in the center are yao: Yijing-lines. Two hands grasping them, and at the bottom a child.

yi-033: difficult to see how the sentence goes. I think from top at right down, then second one down.
The top row from left to right: platform - Yi - Zhou - eight - not
Second row: sea - priciple - child - battle-array - extreme

But when I started reading the first row from top down: not extreme big extreme eight gua picture explanation

Begins to make some sense. More later

not extreme: Wu-Ji, the void
big extreme: Tai-Ji, the yin-yang symbol (the half white half black circle)
eight gua: Ba-Gua, the 8 trigrams

Hi Luis,

Although translating these titles is interesting, they often don't give a clue about the contents of the books - and that is what I would be interested in. Are there interesting pictures in the books which you can show us, or can you give us an image of the table of contents?

P.S. I wish I could contribute more to this forum, but I recently moved to Almere, and since two days I got my internet connection up and running. And all my books are still in boxes. I think a good hexagram for moving would be hexagram 30....the image of boxes piled up.....

Harmen, I really plan to scan the graphics contained in those books and eventually post them in my blog for all to see. Just hang with me. I have little time lately but I am committed to the task. I will add your request for Table of Contents to my scanning task.
