Gals and guys,
Please point your all mighty mice to the following:
Enfilade (look for that heading) (http://www.biroco.com/2003_08.htm#aug08)
Appart from all the skirmishes with Steve Marshall, has anyone actually spent some time reading his site?? And I don't mean the Yijing part of it, good as it is, but the other sections. I leave it up to you to read, judge and comment... (Steve, sorry if I'm stepping on your toes, but, it is public reading...)
What I still don't have clear is if Joel Biroco is Steve Marshall or Steve Marshall is Joel Biroco... Steve, would you care to clarify this? Perhaps enlighten us about your other areas of interest, specially in what respects to KAOS-BABALON, High Magick, etc.?
There are more color hues to this person than in a spring rainbow...
Cheers,
Luis

Luis,
Yeah, I looked at it and wow can he write! Being a writer myself I can really see that he can write. And takes courage too to bare one's soul like that. I used to be a self-styled witch too for many years...

After reading through most of the texts, I must say I enjoyed it deeply, in a drunken-zen sort of way. Surely not conforming to the image I had of him (seems beyond resonable doubt that Joel B. and Steve M. are one and the same), but mind expanding in many ways. I must say I respect his character far more now, and I related to his dilemas in more ways than sanity would advise. His prose induces a not unfamiliar sense of ilusivness that I can comprehend, as if I share some of his own curses. I guess I'm "normal" after all.

Anita, isn't it that once a witch...? Don't leave your spirit friends behind.
Yup, I agree with you and Pedro: the man can write, and how!
I am glad Steve leaves for us those bits to read about how he feels and view the world outside of what he writes here regarding the Yi. It certainly adds another dimension to the person and may help other people understand why he replies or comment the way he does here.

As a writer, Steve certainly has the confidence and courage to strip down to the bare essentials. I could probably learn a thing or two myself. Unfortunately, it often takes cutting open a vein to prove to others that one bleeds as red and profusely as the next guy. But let's not kid ourselves, peering from a distance at the inner animal instinct that drives someone isn't quite the same as facing the wolf in a direct confrontation.

How true! On the other hand, however, you'll be better prepared to face the wolf if you know what makes him tick...
In the particular case of Steve, I've had my own off-color confrontations with him, not knowing anything about the person himself (not that I know any more than what he shares in his site, mind you). After reading some of his journals I can analyze better his points of view. Even if I do not agree with some of them, at least I understand better why he thinks the way he does on many issues.
Let's face it, e-mailing is a new and quite dry communication media. If don't really know the person who is writing to you, you are open to all kind of misinterpretations. Candid journals, like blogs, where a person is talking more to himself, rather than addressing you, assuming they are not bullshitting, really help to add dimension to a person.

Luis,
There are times when I actually find dry e-mail communications to be infinitely more interesting and revealing than the meaningless chit-chat that most people engage in daily in face-to-face interactions, where the responses are often merely habitual and unconsciously driven; usually writing something down takes a bit more forethought than opening one's mouth in the customary way requires.
I do understand where you're coming from though, but still, IMO, simply studying the habits and rituals of someone else's animal nature and believing that that's enough to prepare you for dealing with their wild nature when it erupts, up-close and personal, might be just a little naive - unless of course you're familiar with your own inner wolf yourself, but then that's a whole different ballgame now, isn't it? http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/wink.gif

Dharma,
Why, thank you! I mean, for whatever splashes on me from that broad assessment (at least I'd like to think you find some of what I write interesting). I must agree with that assessment myself. I believe I can communicate much better in writing than verbally, mainly for the reason of using forethought in writing.

Nope, I do not delude myself in believing that, by reading somebody else's rants, I will have all the weapons necessary to deal, mano a mano, with anybody. That would be a very arrogant position and I'd like to believe I conserve quite a bit of humility within me. But one listens, reads, judges, classifies...
Regarding my inner wolf, a funny thing happens. I'm constantly analyzing myself (a treat of being circumspect...) and I've met my wolf. Yup, my wolf talks back to me quite often. I listen. I understand close to nothing of what he is saying, mind you, but still listen. The funny thing is that I feel my inner wolf is trying to tame me... http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/happy.gif

Hi Luis,
I haven't left my spirit friends behind at all. In fact, today I am aware of more spirits than I was before. I was merely evolving to a state of more power - power that comes from within. And I didn''t feel like I was betraying my Goddess, Isis, (symbolised by the moon)who I invoked for so many years because every full moon and no-moon, we have special prayers in the Temple. Had I truly betrayed Her, She would have let me know. For instance, the strange hair raising feeling I used to get when I forgot to invoke Her.
One could say that today I have found the Real Thing. The Real Goddess.

We are all at different stages in our evolution. Only we can say for sure where we're at and what we need. Sometimes, where we are, calls for taming and the need for some purposeful fencing-in, but sometimes after straining on short leashes for too long, we KNow it's time to run with the wolves! Interestingly, when I was born there was a big dispute as to whether I should be named after my grandmother Aphrodite or not. Since we already had quite a full-house of girls (cousins) named after the Goddess of Love by then, I was given over to the Goddess of Fertility instead, and I've been spreading seeds ever since.. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/wink.gif ..except for when I am denied what is rightfully mine, and then you better believe that all bets are off... http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/biggrin.gif

Dharma,
I've been Aphrodite and a Bacchanal for a long long time. I have not left Aphrodite behind, oh no. And anyway, IMHO, it's not what true freedom is about.I have just added a new dimension to my Aphrodite. And that certainly does not put me into an 'enclosure' I'm in fact closer to my True Self than I ever was. And that has given me the unmatched power to transform my life for the better. It has set me free.

Anita,
The experience of running free vs what feels like enclosure and imprisonment is as relative to each of us as time can be; we will perceive it in our own way. Also, the different stages and milestones of our lives will alter the experience for us as well.
Glad you're discovering freedom for yourself. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/smile.gif
