An interesting thing happened the other night. My large bedroom window has no screen and is paned with two sheets of glass. I had the outer window slid open, the blinds lowered and partially closed, when a chippie flew right into it. Landing in-between the storm windows, it hopped over to the corner, where it believed itself trapped. It was freaking out, chirping wildly to his friends, who sat below the window calling for him. I happened to be jamming at the time and stopped to watch the bird. I felt that if I tried to get it out the window, it would likely freak and hurt himself, possibly fly into my room. So I started playing softly and found a chimey sound which seemed to calm the bird down. I played to it for about 15 minutes, an array of chimey chords and melodies through a chorus pedal. The bird calmly sat, its little breast rising and falling in dharma like a new born child. I put my Chinese Strat copy on the bed, opened the inner window and cradled the soft ball of feathers in my palm... and slowly skidded him along the sill until he stood once again at the widely opened window, where it intuitively returned to the environment suited to his existence. Sometimes it takes a soothing word and the hand of God to move us, feet skidding along until we stand before the opened window. Its up to us to fly.
