Has anyone used "Twelve Channels of the I Ching" by Myles Seabrook? It applies the essence of the meaning of each hexagram and component lines to twelve areas or categories of experience, such as 'emotion', 'communication', 'awareness', 'economy'(i.e. finance) etc. . It would do no good to rely on it as your only tool, as you could rely on it in a 'one size fits all' fashion, and the subtlety and adaptability of the original would be lost, but it has made me understand a few of the images in the more traditional versions in ways I hadn't considered.

Hi Kts,

I, too, have this particular book. I find it to be sometimes quite useful but like you said, it's not the most practical book on the shelf to use by itself. Surprisingly, it sometimes manages to come to the rescue and shed light on moving lines whose meanings initially eluded me in other books.

Thank you, Dharma. I wondered if anyone had had the same experience as me.
(I'm fortunate enough to work in a library which holds a lot of I Ching books - I don't actually own the Seabrook book).
And while we're on books - I am frequently impressed by the explanations of the relationships between the lines in the Wang Bi version, translated by Richard Lynn. They are so often spot on for the situation I'm asking about.

Hi Kts,

You are very lucky that your library has so many I Ching books that you can study at your leisure --to pick and choose, that is. It sounds like they have a decent collection. My library has scarcely any and they seem *very* reluctant to pick up any of the books I've asked for in this topic area.

I'll just have to keep hounding them... hmmm...(!!) maybe if I don a few disguises and go in as different people... http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/mischief.gif ahh! to be 10 again....if I had the time, the library would be getting a "show" from me! http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/spin.gif
