Hi Yly2pg1,

I'm delighted to know that some people here (e.g., you) read Chinese well. My knowledge of the simplified font (used in the article and the snippet posted) is lousy. My limited understanding of your snippet is that it's important to note the relationship/interaction between the bottom trigram and the upper trigram. More specifically, whether line 1 "responds" to line 4, line 2 and line 5, finally line 3 and line 6.

As I tried to read more, my eyes start to lose their alignment... Perhaps you may want to say more on this topic?

Philippa

Just some notes I had on Jing Fang

Lived: 76-37 bce (Early Han)
Wrote: Jingshi yi zhuan, Yi za zhan tiaoli fa, Yi zhangchu
Worked with: ba gong, gua qi, yinyang jia

Distinguish from Jing Fang (the elder)140-80bce
who may have written Jing Fang Yizhuan.

Hi Philippa (and anyone),

It is good to include the "quality of time" in divining with the I Ching. To do this involves few steps (and concepts). This is my purpose here to start this thread for a start.

Philippa, i will come out with some basic steps in Chinese (together with my poor English), and hopefully, you could help to make correction and translation into proper English.

There are steps that can be helpful with Yi Jing divination:

(1)纳支法 [na zhi] - Adopting the branches

(2)世应爻 - Identifying the location of shi4[世]-line and ying1[應]-line.

[shi4 世] ? self, subject;
[ying1 應] ? other (literally, answer, response) (term used in "Yijing" divination technique for determining other or object line in a hexagram (gua))

(3)按六亲 - Locating "six relatives" at each line

[liu4 qin1 六 親] ? six relatives:
fu mu 父母 - related to parents, elders
xiong di 兄第 - related to brothers, sisters, peers or people of about same age, fellowship
guan gui 官鬼 - related to official, legal matter
qi cai 妻財 - related to wife and money matters
zi sun 子孫)- related to sibblings, children

(4)六獸 - Locating "six animal" at each line
[liu4 shou4 六獸] ? six animals/spirits

bai hu 白虎
xuan wu 玄武
qing long 青龍
gou chen 勾陳
zhu que 朱雀
teng she 螣蛇
