Thanks for both replies. Can the Yi do that? i.e. answer your question from my perspective instead of from the perspective of the people in the question? Thats what I find so confusing in Yijing. Its hard to work out whether its you thats being advised or the answer that is being given to the question. From your experience (much more extensive than mine) does this happen a lot?

FYI. I went dancing and he wasn't there. I had a great time. Also found out that M is going overseas for 4 weeks and they are not yet an "item" (couple). When asked, she seemed to be confused about whether it was casual dating or not.

I asked Yi "how would my returning to dance (and being in Brian's face, literally, when I've been AWOL for 7 months) affect the situation?". I got 21.4, 21.5 -> 24. What happens when you get 2 changing lines. I used 21.4 but also read 21.5.

If you have karchers Relationship IChing book, it says to gnaw through the obstacle and set limits. 24 says Love and spirit return after a difficult time.

what do you think? Muchly appreciated from this end.

This is trickier. In the situation you outlined (returning to dance) you're biting through an obstacle in a way that returns you to where you should be. On the macro level, that's great news, and you should be glad about it.

The problem is on the micro level. 21.4 is just fine: it talks about working through a long-standing obstacle and finding something valuable in that process. It's hard to carry out what you think is right, but if you manage it, the outcome is fortunate. But 21.6 is a heads up for you: it's saying that there's some important truth in this situation that you're just not listening to. You know, people have got a *huge* capacity for selective attention, but sometimes it amounts to self-deception, plain and simple. 21.6 is telling you you're fooling yourself in some way. Now I don't know you and I don't know Brian and I don't know the situation, but a heart in love is famous for not seeing things clearly, so it might be a good idea to start there in your investigation.

Again, if you return to dance, you break through an obstacle. But what *is* that obstacle exactly? Is it in you, or is it in him, or is it in the relationship? It could be any of those possibilities. It might not be what you want, is what I'm saying. But if the Yi's to be believe, and if I'm reading it right, it's what you need.

Hex 21.4 says that you still have many personal problems that must be taken care off. You want to return to the dancing to punish Brian, to show him that you don't give a damn about what he gets up to. But you must be strong, no giving into weakness, you know what you will face by going to the dancing but you must persevere and then luck will be yours.
Hex 21.6 You have lost a relationship but you must listen to good advice, don't cut yourself off with your negative thoughts and fears. Correct your past mistakes, be sensible, and see the errors that you have made.

Hex 24 Return, this suggests a time of rebirth, a new start and new hope for the future, a returning energy afer a very difficult time. Join again with others and you will find success. Returning comes on the 7th day, here it is the 7th month. Lets go dancing.

Thanks Dobro. So very many thanks. Yes, it was just this morning that I re-read the text lines and they seem to be talking to me. So thank you for bringing this to light. I have a feeling that I know what this 'obstacle' is. Already I feel much better for taking the action that I did.
