Okay, I think I am reflected in 52.2, in the sense that I see the mistakes I've made, and I do feel like he continues to make the same mistakes, but he doesn't want my help...maybe out of shame, etc. I don't quite get 52.6 - is this him or is this me?

Just in case the commentarie can be useful:

If the question was How does X want our relationship to evolve?, both lines represent his toughts.

The way I see your answer: He wants the relationship arise step by step by serenity. (Another way to say it: right now he is not letting his thoughts go beyond the present situation)

More specific: he is not happy now (line 2) so he is trying to get calm (line 6) before take the next step in the relation (related hexagram)
