An article about Alice Walker
On the large stage in the cavernous church she looks small and monkish, "a woman holy and alone", as one reviewer described her in 1979. Reading steadily in her calming southern accent, she speaks about the metaphysical pause, an idea drawn from the I Ching, and says that Congress should have "paused" after September 11 rather than acted in haste.

You could make a hobby of working out where 'quotations from the I Ching' and 'ideas drawn from the I Ching' come from. Could this be from the commentary on 23? Where I first read it, in Ritsema/Karcher, it says:
"The junzi honors the dissolving pause to overfill emptiness."
Congratulations on your 1,001st post, by the way. :)

Perhaps it is, yes. I'm writing a little essay in Spanish about Buddhism and the Yijing in the Tukogawa Era of Japan--something that's pretty much available in English but not in the other language--and I'm having a ball researching quotes and arguments made by Buddhist, Confucians and Shintos using the Yijing as scaffolding for their doctrines. They all bitterly criticized each other during that Edo Period and they all hurled Yijing quotes at each other to support their points. I find it, not only very interesting, but hilarious! :)
As for my passing the 1000 message threshold, can I get my Clarity Diploma now??? :D

 Hey, if you make the "signature" option of the forum software available, I'll use VSMI right next to my name. Is like a Clarity Ph.D... :D
