I have a friend who is having to go through legal channels to receive her inheritance. Both parents died last year and the youngest sibling is claiming that my friend and the other sister should not be given an equal share of the estate as they were adopted, while the youngest girl a daughter by birth.Trying to get an idea of the outcome, I asked the I Ching, "How will my friend feel about the court decision?" I received 3.1 - 8. I don't see this as discribing a feeling, but I can see it as discribing the situation, that is, the Difficulties in establishing that the adopted girls were as cherished a part of the family Union as the third daughter. Should I infer then that this is also saying that ultimately the Difficulty will be overcome and the adopted girls status as full members of the Union will be recognized? Or do you think hexagram 8's IMAGE "Thus the kings of antiquity bestowed the different states as fiefs and cultivated friendly relationships with the feudal lords", implies that the daughters will be treated differently, just as a king would treat the various feudal lords as having different claims?

Somebody here recently said that when reading a result, you should always try to interpret it in terms of the question that was put to the oracle, even if it seems like there isn't a fit. I thought that was good advice, especially for somebody like me who's always ready to think that the oracle is holding up a mirror for the person asking the question to see themselves instead of indulging their curiosity.

So if I take that approach to your question and your result, it would look something like this: since 3.1 has to do with standing firm and establishing firm support, your friend will find herself having to deal with that issue as a result of the legal action. In other words, the court action will tend to throw her off-balance emotionally, and she'll have to stand firm and establish firm support. And in this, I see no indication of whether or not the court will find in her favor. I mean, I can see this as an upsetting situation whether she gets any inheritance or not.

Hex 3.1 says that she has a problem that needs the services of a lawyer.

Hex 8 says that she and her sister should indeed hold together and form a union with their lawyer, he will be the leader of said union. Now, forming this union promises success in the court.
The outcome is this, the judge in the case will rule that all 3 sisters come from the same family are are all subject to the same law, they are all part of one family, therefore they are all entitled to an equal share.

Hi rosada

Just in case the comment could be useful

The court could say "equal share" and your friend could feel hesitation about it like 3.1
The court could say "unequal share" and your friend could feel hesitation about it like 3.1

Best wishes

Looking again about dobro's suggestion that one really should try to interpret a reading in terms of the original question asked, Willowfox's pointing to the need for a good legal assistance, and Jesed's noting that despite whatever the actual verdict is, the feelings still remain at 3.1...Well, it occurs to me that if the judge - not the lwayer - is able to carefully sort things out, perhaps no matter what the final decision is, perhaps a truly fair and well reasoned verdict will open the path to some sort of reconcilliation, Union, between the sisters. That would "feel" wonderful!

Hi rosada

Regarded lawsuits, there are some others aproaches that could be more accurate, that asking for feelings about the veredict

Best wishes

Thanks, Jesed. I had focused the question on feelings thinking that if I knew how she would feel that would reveal the outcome. What do you suggest?

Hex 8 holding together means uniting, holding together brings good fortune, holding together is something joyous.

So as hex 8 is the final hex and you asked about her feelings after the judge has made his decision in the case, her feeling will be one of joy.

FWIW my take is the Yi is simply saying this can't be answered yet - too early.
