Hi all:

Maybe this is part of the "Ambiguity" thread below and I could have mentioned it there...

Has anyone ever started casting the coins for an answer and you start to wonder as you do it?

For example, I got a 7, then another 7, then I start wondering if there will be a third 7. Then the third toss was a 7 and I said - "Oh, the trigam Ch'ien". Wonder what will be next?

I guess I'm saying, I get distracted as I toss the coins to get an answer to my question.
I'm wondering if this interferes with the result.

Does anyone else have this experience? It seems the more I learn, the more I distract myself.

Yes I think it happens to most people, I don't worry about it too much. The more you try not to be distracted the worse it gets, like saying to someone whatever you do don't think of the word horse or whatever. Best to just let those thoughts go on by without trying too hard to stop them.

What I do find strange is how often an answer I have cast comes up here, raised in discussion or question by someone else, very shortly before or after I have received it. This is very convenient to me, thankyou everyone !

Rosalie, I have a similar experience, for me especially when I get towards the end of a reading. I have a tendency to start thinking about which of the few possible Hexes it will turn out to be.

I certainly don't *know* whether thinking about the result during a reading affects the outcome, but as a matter of course I take a few moments to clear my mind of surface thoughts before I ask my question and cast.

Towards the end of the reading, I make an effort to stay free of stray thoughts and to not think about what the result will be. This really only takes a small amount of willpower, esp. now that I'm "used to it".

My two cents,

- Jeff

It's a pisser when you're sure you've got it wired, right up until that very last line. D'oh!

Yup - I sometimes get 5 lines that aren't six or nine - and then BINGO - a nine!

It seems like a more definite answer when the lines don't change - but sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for - it's not always so great.

Just babbling -

I'm the opposite, hate getting unchanging hexagrams. Think this is because I always focus on lines so much. Just babbling back.
