What will the result be if... 19 and 40.1.4 > 19

Hello everyone

I would really appreciate some help interpreting what the Yi is trying to tell me here.

On Wednesday, I asked "What will the result be if I find a girlfriend in the next few months?". The answer I got was 19 unchanging.

On Thursday I asked "What will the result be if I do not find a girlfriend in the next few months?". The answer I got was 40.1.4 > 19

I interpret 40 as Relief - and in specific - relief from the cause of Hardship resulting from the recent failed relationship with X. I also understand that 40's about timing and harmony between people being important, which means that if there's someone / somewhere to go to that doing so now would be a good idea, but if there's no one / nowhere to go that keeping still is what's required. The latter is true in my case...

Moving line 4 talks about cutting ties with a petty person / companion (i.e. refering to line 1). Line 1 says that there should be no fault and indicates the turning point between Hardship and Relief.

Where I need the forum's help is interpreting the fact that both questions lead to 19. Although Hex 19 is very special it has the dreaded misfortune that occurs after 8 months, but which can also be interpreted as after the 8th month (September) misfortune comes...and a new cycle starts.

Firstly, what is the forum's concensus on 'after 8 months' vs 'the 8th month'?

...and what ultimately is the Yi saying here? Is it saying that whether I find a girlfriend or not that the results will be the same either way?

Well the result suggests that if you look, then you should find a girlfriend for better or worse, that is up to you.

First you relax, then you get rid of any hangers on, and then you will get a new girlfriend.

In this answer take no notice of the 8th month because you ain't even got a girlfriend yet, so how can a relationship that does not exist go wrong?

I took the nucleus of hex 19, since it was an unchanging hex and the nucleus can show what will emerge from the primary hex. (It can also show what to avoid, but in this case, I think it is showing what may emerge.)

Okay, the nucleus of hex 19 is hex 24, "Turning Point". Your question is "what will be the result if you find a girlfriend in the next few months?" The result will be a turning point in your life, (common sense tells you that it would be a turning point, but the I ching is answering your question honestly). Also, you will have renewed energy and optimism, (also common sense, for falling in love). Believe in yourself, be true to yourself and you will make a fresh start. New relationship(s) is/are indicated.

So, overall, a good reading.

I won't go through your second question, but it should be very encouraging to you, that 19 came up again.

Having let things marinate for a while, I get the distinct impression that the Yi is stressing the Return of something significant, and the way in which I formulated my question leads me to believe that whether or not I find a girlfriend in the next few months won't make any difference...

I asked the follow-up question "What time is it for me now?" and got 40.4 > 7

Interesting to note though that the nuclear hex of line 4 is 24 too...

Hex 40.4 again. It is telling you that you need to rid yourself of those people that are dragging you down, they are blocking your chances of finding somebody nice.

Hex 7 is telling you that it is now a time to be decisive and take control of your life, you need to be in charge of yourself and not have others tell you what to do or how to live.
