What is the EXACT nature of Hex# 54? Is it ever a "good" thing?

I have always been at a loss with hex# 54 "Marriage of a younger sister. I've always understood it to mean more a sub-serviant role. is this true from any of your experiences?

If line 9 is an instruction for me to wait, is this telling me that by working with XXXXX I will be in a sub-serviant position? or will I be guided?

Hex# 19...the guaci stating that my approach and arrival must be completed in 7 months...is this literal? I should complete my business plan in 7 months?

54 means something like 'relative powerlessness in new circumstances'. The circumstances involved are often some kind of coming together of forces. The 'powerlessness' part sounds unattractive, but sometimes it's just inevitable that you will be powerless in new circumstances - think of joining a new group and you're new and you have no status or support yet - that sort of thing.

54.4 is kind of positive, I think. It talks about things coming together later than expected, but in a way that's exactly right. The timing is perfect.

As for interpreting it literally, my experience is that 9 times out of 10, you shouldn't interpret the Yi literally.

Hasty or impetuous action describes the main theme of 54, with a couple of the lines (4 & 5) showing the virtues of patience and deferred gratification. A quick response is a good thing, though, when it's timely to seize the day. And seizing the day, or more precisely, stepping up to a task and getting to work is the main theme of 19. To either act like it's the eighth month (a time of retrospect) or to wait for the eighth month, to plow and plant the field in September, is also bad timing. You are being steered I think to a middle way position and carefully watching the timing of things.

Hex 54.4 is saying do not jump, wait for the moment because if you feel or find out that XXXX is not the right service for you then don't use them because given time you will indeed find the right people. It seems to me that you have some doubts about XXXX and in the long run they could well prove to be true, so keep looking for another company that really suits your needs, then you will find the success that you want.
Also, if the company was the right one to use then why would your answer say to wait and not to go running into their arms straight away? If they are not right now then what does it matter if you wait, they still won't be right, will they?

Hello. From my understanding hexagram 54 is about the observence or non observence of social customs and protocols.

Line 4 is about a situation where someone prefers to a social custom, even if it means going against so called "natural" urges. Example : someone who wants to remain chaste past prime marrying age in the hopes of finding someone to marry.


Hexagram 19 might be talking about going forward with a positive and righteous attitude in this endeavor. Winter is giving way to spring. Work now to cultivate that positive energy because the time to take advantage of the upswing wont be around forever.

All that to say whatever you are contemplating, you should observe social protocol and approach it with a positive and righteous attitude. Hope this made sense.
