I'm wondering if Bradford could comment on why his interpretation/translation of this line differs so much from Wilhelm. Why doesn't Wilhelm mention marriage?

Just in case the comment could be useful

The diference is not "so much".

"The quest of a marital suitor" (Bradford's translation) is one kind of "search for union" (Whilelm's Translation).

I'm not absolutely sure if this generalization (from especific marital union to any kind of union) belongs to Whilelm's original or belongs to translations of Whilelm's original to other leanguages.

Of course, Bradford's translation is more accurate; altough the general meaning of both point to the same recomendation of action.

Sorry to not respond more quickly - I was gone this weekend. I don't know if you've seen my Matrix translation, the one with the Chinese alongside the multiple English options for each of the characters, but that walks you through how I got there. My discipline was to respect and represent every single Chinese word with an English counterpart. I can't make Wilhelm's results work in any literal way with the Chinese original. But he could have been aware of some idiomatic expressions that I wasn't familiar with.
