A reclusive Indian mystic who became an influential figure in 20th century popular culture around the world has died. As VOA correspondent Steve Herman reports from New Delhi, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was far more appreciated in the West than in his homeland. (http://www.voanews.com/english/2008-02-06-voa5.cfm)

Thanks for telling us Luis. I learned transcendental meditation as he taught it a long time ago and benefited from it as did alot of westerners who would never have had the chance to experience it if he had not bought it to us.

I was fascinated that he passed less than 24 hours following NASA beaming the Beatles' "Across the Universe" into deep space:

There's something poetic in there somewhere - I wish him Godspeed.

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind,
Possessing and caressing me.
Jai guru deva om.
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
Thay call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box,
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.
Jai guru deva om.
Sounds of laughter shades of love are ringing through my open ears,
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe.
Jai guru deva om.
Jai guru deva om,
Jai guru deva om,
Jai guru deva om...
I am sure JOhn Lennon and the yogi are smiling together. thank you doingnotdoing. I didnt know about that
