View Full Version : Doing it wrong

I am new to the I Ching, and I just realized I have done 4 important readings in a row all wrong. I didn't put the 2 bundles back together and re-divide the stalks between each part... instead I left the stalks in the same bundles for the 3 parts of each line. I knew something was wrong when I could only ever get a value of "2" for the 2nd and 3rd position of each line. So I re-read the directions and found my mistake!
Now what should I do - should I re-ask the questions I already did? The book says not to keep asking the same questions but what about in this case? Perhaps the universe already understood and gave me the answers but if they are the wrong answers I need to know...

If you had a wise grandmother or father, and asked those questions, how would they react? Probably tell you not to worry, just ask again.
I Ching is very much like a wise grandparent.
If you ask the same question many times, and she knows you are just upset, she will try to calm you down, comfort you. If she knows you are being a nuisance, she will tell you to stop asking.
You only made a mistake, I Ching will answer you as seriously as before.

Did you examine your answers and try to determine whether they seemed relevant/pertinent to the questions you asked? If they seem like *answers* then it's likely that "the universe already understood and gave me the answers" IMHO.

Love LiSe's comments, and agree with Jeff's as well.
I also believe Chris Lofting's ideas come to play here, about our mind's ability to seek and find meaning. If you found meaning in your reading, then apply it. If not, ask again with your correct method.

Tina:-
I agree with Bruce.
(Hello, my friend...)
Were the responses you recieved relevent?
Yi is very forgiving, especially to the new...
If you found what you were looking for, accept it. If not, then do it again.
No big deal.
Everything's gonna' be just fine.
