Hi all,

I am very new to this wonderful site. I've used the I Ching for several years now, perhaps once a year when chaos/crossroads have arisen.

My question is about trigrams. For instance, I just cast the coins and got Hexagram 39 (relating Hexagram is 49) and, in looking up all of the aspects of it, found that Hexagram 49 feels where I am mostly and am headed, and as for 39, the primary Hexagram, it is the trigrams--as described here by Hilary--that fit my situation more than the Hexagram itself does. These two trigrams as elements/forces feel like the active means, whereas the hexagram they form in number 39 feels stagnant, and I am not in a stagnant place right now). So in this instance far more than the Hexagram itself does.

Would any experienced voices here be able to offer the correct protocal regarding trigrams?

Many thanks and looking forward to more discussion here,

Gillian

Hi Gillian,

The longer I work with the IC the less protocol I follow. From an entire reading there may be only one word which jumps out at me, or as in your case, the trigrams of the primary hexagram, which ignites the correction process in me. The rest of the details are there to mull over, but the change or adjustment I needed to make usually comes with an instant "ahhh".

If trigrams work for you, great!

Hi Gillian

I've made a acryl 80x60 painting of the 64 hexagrams seen as coloured trigrams:

http://www2.mandala.dk/photos_post/84/5484-msg

The shape (whole or broken) symbolize the lower trigram of the hexagrams
The colour ("light" or brown) symbolize the upper trigram of the hexagrams

The four "light" colours (white, l.green, d.green, red) symbolize the four seasons

The first upper trigram is Mountain
All of the eight lower trigrams in the middle of the worldtree are Mountains
"Mountains Standing Together" is called "Lien Shan" in chinese :bows:

The 64 trigrams in colour and shape are arranged in binary order from 1 to 64

Enjoy from lienshan :)
