Thank you, Sergio - this is very interesting. I hope China can find a way to salvage and protect its ancient past. It would be very helpful to know a good deal more about Chinese culture before Confucius. The more I study the Yi, the more I feel like I'm trying to play cards with only half the deck. So many shadows, so little light. I have a pretty good historical imagination, but I'd like to use it a lot less.

"China's cultural relics law automatically makes important archaeological discoveries and cultural sites state property, while its criminal law provides for prison terms of three to ten years for those who intentionally damage cultural heritage sites under state protection."

Yeah right, meanwhile they have no problem at all with intentionally damaging Tibetan cultural heritage. How many would have to go to prison if they had a law for that ?

Not Russia, who's encouraging China to hasten the curtailing of "unlawful actions" in Tibet...

MOSCOW, March 17 (Reuters) - Russia said on Monday it hoped China would do what was necessary to curtail "unlawful actions" in Tibet, in a strong show of support for its ally Beijing after Tibetans rioted against Chinese rule. (http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSL17151390)

meanwhile China Govt maintains that Tibet is part of China, so accordingly they are destroying their own cultural heritage.
