Reading in retrospective 39 > 31

Hi,
I had a blind date the other day and curiously asked the Yi if I was going to be attracted to the man. The answer was 39 with moving line 4 turning to 31. After reading various posts on this forum about 39 and ml 4 I was not sure if the Yi told me yes or no so I went to the date with an open attitude. I was not at all attracted to this man, we had, however, quite an interesting conversation and we were both open and honest and we left each other with a clear understanding that this was not to pursue.

So my question is; what was it that the Yi wanted to tell me? That there were obstacles to the attraction but how is 31 fitting in to the picture?

Happy to hear what you think. In any case I feel good about the meeting cause it was an honest one and I feel I am getting closer to the 31ish thing...

Ok, I don't have much experience giving readings but here it goes... For what I see 39.4 talks about holding back because we will not find what we need (Wilhelm). About hex 31, it could meant that by holding back we are actually following the influx.

So for me the answer was "Nope, you would not feel attracted to him".

thanks lightflower. Yes, that was probabely it even if I don't understand the meaning of 31 in this context. I read a lot about 39 and line 4 under the memorizing thread and especially one interpretaion by a "fkegan" puzzled me cause it looked like line 4 was very positive... maybe someone can clarify this?

Mmmm, interesting view. It's a lot more of what I can understand from a changing line so far. I'm curious on others views. i just thought though that this line talks about coming and going. so i retract my previous answer because it does not seem to me that it can be responded with an "yes" or "no", but shows two different situations.

If you scroll down to the Friends area Archive you can see a thread where Philippa talks about the 'coming and going' in 39 and if you look in the hexagram index theres probably alot of stuff on 39.

As to what Frank meant i think you might have to ask Frank.

I suggest you read Wilhelm's version of line 39.4 which states quite clearly that you will not find the man attractive. So, don't worry about Hex 31 here, just concentrate on what line 39.4 has to say.
