Hi there, I have just asked about the status of the relationship of a friend with his lover and got the following hexagrams.
30.1 Radiance
56 Travelling
It sounds kind of strange to me. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!

30.1's a bit ambiguous, I think - you're gonna get a variety of interpretations based on the reader's understanding of the line. My take on 30.1 is something like this: conduct that clarifies the situation - give it your respect and you're without fault. So, if you apply that to the relationship you've enquired about, it would read like this: the relationship now requires clarification and respect. (I imagine that the reason there's a need for clarification and respect is because one or more of the parties *isn't* clear about the relationship, or isn't giving the relationship the respect it deserves.)

Oh, yeah...
Alternately, that clarification and respect I talked about in the post above might actually be happening now, and the Yi's just highlighting it because it's the chief feature of the relationship as it stands. Only the principals can say for sure which one it is.

There is some blundering going on, perhaps because of lack of experience. Things are however done with respect. Basically there's nothing really wrong with it.

So much about hexagram 30.1, what's your take on 56?

I don't have a take on 56, cuz when there's just one active line in a draw, I don't take the relating hexagram into account. (My view is that the relating hexagram is *already* taken into account in the single active line.) If there are two or more active lines though, I take the relating hexagram into account. Not only that, but the more active lines there are, the less emphasis I give to each of them, and the more emphasis I give to the relating hexagram.

Looks like constant seeking. Here we have twin lights (Hexagram 30) Knowledge and enlightenment in it's static form. Now let's give that light a pair of legs...it just keeps wandering (56) Now I didn't say that they wander apart, for hexagram 30 is twin fires, but maybe they will both wander together insearch of something...Leonard Nimoy comes to mind.

On another note, The I Ching may be adressing you. You cast the hexagram didn't you? You received hexagram 30 which deals with knowlege and enlightenment. Then it pointed you to 56 wandering. It's pretty plain to see that the I Ching is telling you that if you want to know the answer to your question about someone else (hence 30 - knowledge and enlightenment) you should go travel (Hexagram 56) and make some kind of contact with your friends. Maybe travel over to your closest phone, or travel over to your computer and send an email, or travel...you get the point.

"Oh we ain't got a barrel of money,
"Maybe we're ragged and funny,
"But we TRAVEL ALONG, (56)
Singin' a song, SIDE BY SIDE."(30)
