Hi everyone,
I asked the ic what do you think of the paper I just handed in (for class) and recieved this hexagram 60.4.6-10
We were told to write an essay on bilingual ed. pro or con based on this essay of someone whose parents spoke Spanish. When he was 6 the nuns came to the home and sked the parents to only speak eng. to their children , which they were not fluent in. This pretty much stopped his ability to converse w/ his parents. I changed the argument and wrote about homeschooling in his situation as a way of keeping the family intact and getting a good education.

Hi, I'm wondering when you asked the question were you asking the Yi to comment on the subject matter of the essay, 'bilingual pro or con' or were you just asking about how you performed in the essay ? I'm assuming it was the latter ? In which case I think its saying you did stick within the limits that were set for the essay, perhaps you strayed a bit but line 6 says don't be too harsh with yourself. No harm done but be a bit careful of protocol, hex 10. Presumably you can tread on your teachers tail carefully, there is a little leeway to step outside the proscribed limits for the essay topic.

If this isn't what you're asking none of the above applies.http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/clipart/biggrin.gif FWIW I agree with your take on it, must create emotional problems for parents to be not allowed to talk in their own preferred language to a child. Having said that my own father never spoke his own language to me, there wouldn't have been much point I suppose as no one else in the environment did and his English was good.. Mmm now if you were asking if the nuns did the right thing for the child its different..

Hi Void,
thanks for the response.
Yeah, I asked what the ic, I guess, thought of my paper, my performance, that is.
This person's parents english wasn't very good .

Hi, well in that case the answer would seem to indicate you did fine, you did what was required, but you may be in some way imposing a little too much rigour and discipline on yourself which eventually stress tolerance levels a little ? Well thats a possible interpretation, how do you see it ?

Who tolerance levels did I stress, my own?
I thought, maybe in Sam Reifler's ic book, (which I know isn't very highly regarded , but some of the line readings are accurate from my experience) the 60.6 says you imposed a discipline on another that might seem harsh but in time you will see it was necessary or something to that effect. I thought that perhaps it meant that the idea I presented that fitting in isn't desirable at such a high cost was important to express to the teacher and I guess the class too, cause I discussed my point of view in class.Hope that doesn't sound conceited, but it is a community college 1st level English class,I mean the papers only have to be 500 words. (People on this site do that every other day in some of their replies). I guess I think 10 means, I didn't do the exact assignment but that the teacher tolerates it?
