Not sure what everyones background is here, but I myself have been a practicing witch for many years. However, I am currently a student of the Tao, and I have adopted the attitude that many of the things I used to do are not necessary, I just have to let the universe bring me what is mine.
However, I still do some things such as healing, cleansing space etc. I was wondering if anyone had tried using herbs or stones when they consult I Ching. There are both herbs and stones that are said to enhance understanding, clarity and psychic ability. Just wondering if anyone had tried this and what the results were.
Also, other than meditation, are there any other techniques used to enhance your understanding of your reading. I think that, sometimes, even in meditation, I tell myself what I want to hear.

I never did, but I sure am going to hold a stone, next time I consult the Yi. Depending on what I am asking, a Jasper for an earthly question, or Aquamarin for a spiritual one. Or Tiger-iron for a personal one, or Turquoise for protection.
Curious if it makes a difference. But I am quite sure it will.

Seeker,
I have some music from Japan that I play when I consult the I Ching.
I find that it helps to keep my mind on what I'm doing.
Best wishes,

Will be interesting to hear your results Lise. I am taking a break from asking questions as I think I was getting into a bad cyle of asking too often, but I am going to try the herbs at my next reading.
Mick, never thought about music that would help. I did find that my readings were clearer when I turned off my tv or stereo and had less noise to distract me.

Sometimes I drink a cup of yogic tea, it helps a bit, and I light up some incense, that's all I tried as "external" help .
I do also a bit of sitting meditation before a reading, generally my worst results are when my mind is agitated, so I think whatever method you like in order to quiet your mind before the reading is good. (sitting meditation, walking meditation, soft music and light, a cup of tea).

I agree about being agitated, although it's usually me and not the reading that isn't clear. If I ask a question when I am upset, or the answer itself upsets me, those are the times I panic and start asking question after question to "clarify". At that point, it's time to close the program (I use the one here at Clarity), put down the books and walk away.

I use the Moon, water and crystals.
I am uncertain as to the effect of crystals but I like their feel and sometimes get a real blast from them... The Yi tells me they are not so important for my readings.
I have been tracking the effect of the Moon this last few years, both against my life/energy cycles and my readings.
At times around Full Moon my contact with the Yi becomes very strong.
I have almost come to see it as an amplifier. When trying to fathom distant things I get strong clear answers at this time.
The water I collect from various ancient sites a couple of times a year... but that is part of a different thread.
What was once a living room but now seems to be dominated by my small alter and its tree with its crystals and other objects (Jade Bi etc) all on silver threads from the branches and a PC...
What I have been doing is exploring the connection side of the Yi... I have found that there is a lot that can be done to increase this.
Lastly that I think, now, there is a third process at work when i use the Yi..
1st there is the connection...
2nd Comes the reading and its understanding
3rd Some other process seems to take place within me over time... as if by allowing the connection and focusing on the reading some other change takes place within... Some development other than learning.

When I'm concentrating on doing my reading, I only draw when my mind is focussed. Often the mind wanders, in between draws, and I wait until it comes back to the question at hand, and then draw.
Not sure if this is really better or not, but it seems it should be, at least according to theory.

Hi Kevin,
Your basic concept (about the Moon vs life/energy and your living room) resonates well with the classic Feng Shui practice.
