How to make a very simple quote:

[video=vimeo;187532142]https://vimeo.com/187532142[/video]

It puts quote tags around the text, which are [ QUOTE][ /QUOTE] (without the extra spaces after the left bracket "["). Then when you click on "Post Quick Reply" (or "Save Changes" if you're in the "Go Advanced" editor) it will publish it to the forum with the gray box around it.

The code in the edit box looks like this (without the extra spaces):

[ QUOTE]To be or not to be[ /QUOTE]

It looks like this when it's posted:

To be or not to be

How to use "Reply With Quote" -

[video=vimeo;187534041]https://vimeo.com/187534041[/video]

The difference here is that the gray quote box includes the name of the person who posted what you're quoting, and a clickable graphic linking to their post (the >> characters in the tiny square). It will look like this:

Example post to use for instructions.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

"Reply With Quote" copies the person's entire post into the edit box. If their post is long, you'll probably want to edit it to delete the parts you won't be referring to. Do that the normal way, by highlighting the text you want to delete and pressing the delete key on your keyboard. Just make sure to preserve one beginning quote tag and one ending one.

"Reply With Quote" tags look like this (again, without the extra spaces):

[ QUOTE=name;999999][ /QUOTE]

You can also type these manually. Sometimes that's easier, for example if the post you want to quote is in a different thread. Type all the characters as you see them above, except for the extra space right after the left brackets "[". Type the left bracket, the word "QUOTE", the equals sign, the person's name, and the semi-colon.

To get the post identification number (the dummy "999999" in the example), hover your mouse over the desired post's "Reply With Quote" button, but don't click it. Your browser will display the post's url somewhere on the screen. It will look like this...

www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=999999

...where the dummy "999999" will instead be the post's unique ID number. Remember it or write it down, and type it after the semi-colon in the quote tag. Then finish the tag with the right bracket, and you'll also have to type the closing tag [ /QUOTE] (as usual, without the space between "[" and "/").

(Hovering your mouse over several of the other buttons will also display tooltips containing the post ID number somewhere in them: the permalink in the post's upper right corner (e.g. "#2"), the "Edit Post" button, the "Reply" button, the "Multi-Quote" button in the lower right corner, etc.)

Continuing with how to do this manually - then copy the text from the post that you want to quote. Do this in the normal way by highlighting it with your mouse and using Ctrl-c, or the "Copy" command from your browser's menu or the right-click context menu. Paste the text between the quote tags with Ctrl-v or the "Paste" command...

[ QUOTE=name;999999]text you want to quote[ /QUOTE]

...and click on "Post Quick Reply" (or "Save Changes" in the advanced editor).

Multi-quoting:

[video=vimeo;187586139]https://vimeo.com/187586139[/video]

Here's what it looks like when it's done. Both earlier posts are combined into a new one. If you hover over the link graphics, you'll see the post ID numbers belonging to each. You can find the original posts in the thread by clicking on the graphics. (This is useful for long threads.)

Example post to use for instructions.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Will do multiquote later.

Edit, edit, edit....
