...life can be translucent

The Resonance Journal won't start

When you click Resonance_Journal.jar, either nothing happens, or you get an error message, 'cannot find main class... program will exit'.

  1. Visit the Java website's 'Verify Java Version' page and check you have the latest version
  2. Follow instructions to install the latest version and uninstall older versions with the Java Uninstall Tool.
This will probably fix the problem. If it doesn't...
  3. Visit Nirsoft and download the free FileTypesMan (the download links are about two-thirds of the way down the page).
  4. Double-click on the zip file you downloaded and then on 'FileTypesMan.exe'. In the Windows dialogue box that appears, click 'Run'. (No need to extract.)
  5. You'll see a list of file types and details. Scroll down to '.jar' in the column on the far left (under the 'Extensions' heading) and click it.
  6. A row of details for .jar files appears in the lower pane. Double-click this to bring up an edit box.
  7. In the 'Command-Line' field of this edit box, you'll see a path to java - the part that begins "C: and ends in .exe". This path is different on different computers, so do not delete or change it!
  8. After the final ", copy and paste in this:  -jar "%1" %* (including the initial space). Your 'Command-Line' box will look something like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_25\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
Do not copy and paste this example! The path to java is probably different on your computer.
  9. Click 'OK'.

Resonance_Journal.jar should now run when double-clicked.
