How is the situation evolving with me and (ex)?
38.1.4 > 4

Should I just let go of (ex)? (I realized after I started casting that this was probably bad cuz it was a Y/N question. I should've done "what will happen if i let go of ex? what will happen if i don't let go of ex?" I was just reading about how you're supposed to ask questions twice in that way)
50.2.3.4.5 > 20
(I don't even know what to do with so many changing lines!)

What will happen if I call (ex) tomorrow?
55 unchanging

55: "Increase things to the fullest extent. Expect prolific growth." Another book said something about a culmination. Sounds like the end, huh.

Not bad here as line 38.1 says that your "horse" will return in due time, while line 38.4 indicates your current status but not to worry as your ex will find her way back. And hex 4 suggests that there is a lesson in all this, something for you to ponder in order that you don't repeat your previous mistake again. Learn your lesson well.

What will happen if I call (ex) tomorrow?

It will be your chance to shine, to reveal your inner and honest feelings but expect to receive a "punishment".

Wow, that's much more optimistic than what I was thinking

Thanks!

Tell me about the nuclear lines. Using a nuclear line program for 55, I get:

55:
Increase things to the fullest extent. Expect prolific growth.

55 Nuclear 1:
Push harder than normal. Do the extraordinary!

55 Nuclear 2: (28, exceeding)
Persist with firm action.

55 Nuclear 3: (1, active force)
Persist with firm action.

Nuclear 4: same as 3

Nuclear readings for 38.1.4 > 4

38.1.4 > 4
38 - Polarise opposites. Keep things separate and estranged.
.1 - The loss will eventually be recouped. Be patient.
.4 - Alone and isolated. Find someone you can trust.
4 - Accept your own ignorance or immaturity.

Nuclear 1:
63.3.5 > 24
63 - Proceed now with an important move or transition.
.3 - Your goals are noble but need time to achieve.
.5 - Keep matters simple and avoid ostentation.
24 - Start afresh from the beginning.

Nuclear 2:
64.2.4.6 > 2
64 - Wait and prepare for an important change.
.2 - Stay on course, but slow down and avoid rash acts.
.4 - Now is the time for brave and decisive action.
.6 - Celebrate, but avoid pride and excess.
2 - Allow yourself to yield or follow.

Nuclear 3:
63.1.3.5 > 2
63 - Proceed now with an important move or transition.
.1 - You must push forward, despite difficulty.
.3 - Your goals are noble but need time to achieve.
.5 - Keep matters simple and avoid ostentation.
2 - Allow yourself to yield or follow.

Nuclear 4: same as Nuclear 2.

Are those just other possible ways the situation can play out? I've never read much about nuclear hexagrams before.

Nuclear hexs are hexs that take you places you should best avoid, and in most cases into the realms of absurdity.

If you can't get an answer from the lines and hex that you were given then racing off into the "nuclear' twilight zone will completely baffle and confuse you, therefore leave well alone to the people with idle hands and nothing better to do with life than chasing after phantoms.

In years gone by astrology had 7 planets, 12 houses and 12 signs, fine. Then along came people who couldn't get an answer from this simplicity(they weren't "tuned" in), so these people started inventing things that are not real, like sabian symbols, adding bits of rock(so called planetoids), making up points in space and a whole host of other waffle. Astrology today has become top heavy with nonsense because "people cannot find an "answer" in the basic chart so they need to decorate it.
So too with the IC, people can't see the obvious so they assume that they more "extensions" they make up the more the IC will yield in information of course it only serves to completely confuse and thus cause doubt about any and every answer received.

Learn the basics and you will be fine, see the answer in the lines and hex that you were given as an answer, as your post No.3 above looks like ramblings and make no sense at all. If you want to know more ask again, simple.

Asking a single question about an ex girlfriend, and then by using "extensions" trying to discover the origins of the universe won't work.

Cool, so I don't really need to worry about the nuclear hexagrams. Good, that's what I was hoping :)

So all I really need to worry about is the primary hexagram, any changing lines, and the future hexagram, right? What about the "ruling line" when it's an unchanging hexagram?

What about the "ruling line" when it's an unchanging hexagram?

When the Hex is unchanging all you read is the "judgement" and/or "image" and see which is applicable to your question, don't read any of the lines of the hex.

I really hope all that is right. I've definitely learned from my mistake.

Uh oh. I'm literally trembling at the prospect of calling her

Good. I love keeping things simple! I was reading about all these crazy other readings and everything and I kept getting confused. I understand the "judgment" and "image." I understand moving lines and how it transforms into the future hex. All the other things (sequence, tradition, counter, nuclear, and a few other things whose names I don't remember) were getting me all confused.

I lied, 4 more questions and then I'm done for real.

It was bugging me that I asked a Y/N question yesterday so I wanted to do it the right way:

What will happen if I just let (ex) go?
37.3.5 > 27

I'll get lots of nourishment?

What will happen if I don't let (ex) go?
58.5.6 > 38

We'll end up separated anyway? But some of the translations say 38 = success in small matters.

What will happen if I call her today at 2pm?
5 unchanging

Wait for the right moment? Or is this saying don't call her yet; wait for the right moment? Legge says "with the sincerity which is declared in it, there will be brilliant success! With firmness there will be good fortune."

What will happen if I email a mutual friend? (logically, I would say this is probably the worst thing I could do as it seems weak and manipulative in a way)
24.6 > 27

Start over? 24.6 says I'm mislead. The James Legge translation makes it sound like this would be a HUGE failure "even in 10 years he will not be able to repair the disaster."
Yet 27 is good fortune.

I'm done asking questions now :)
