This is regarding a dog named Polly that we are forstering at the moment. I am wondering what is best for her?

Hexagram 54, the Marrying Maiden
54.gif

Key Questions
How can you grow into this situation?
What does it mean to you to come second?
How sustainable is this?
Oracle
'The marrying maiden. To set out to bring order: pitfall.
No direction is fruitful.'

A young girl, not yet a woman, comes home to her new husband's house. A nobleman of old China would marry his 'first wife' with great ceremony. She would go to her new home accompanied by a group of female relatives who became 'second wives'. These are the 'marrying maidens': they are present simply to make relationships easier and have no status of their own. As a marrying maiden, you have accepted a relationship where you come second. You are only here to play a supporting role; it would be disastrous to try to shape the situation to fit your own needs. You are too junior, not yet ready to exert influence; there is no point in your setting intentions or making plans. All you can do is to feel your way, adapt, and find your place, without originating any action or having any agenda of your own.

'Above the lake, there is thunder: the Marrying Maiden.
A noble one through ever-flowing endings
Knows what wears out.'

Sequence
The Marrying Maiden follows from Hexagram 53, Gradual Progress:
'Making progress must mean a time to come home, and so the Marrying Maiden follows.'

Changing Lines
Line 1
'Maiden marries as a younger sister.
Lame, can still walk.
Setting out to bring order: good fortune.'

Line 2
'With one eye, can see.
A hermit's constancy bears fruit.'

Line 4
'Marrying maiden overruns the set time.
Delays and marries at the right time.'

Hexagram 2, Earth

Key Questions
How are you being guided?
How can you lend your strength?
Oracle
'Earth.
From the source, creating success.
The constancy of a mare bears fruit.
A noble one has a direction to go.
At first, confusion. Later, gains a master.
Fruitful in the southwest, gaining partners.
In the northeast, losing partners.
Peaceful constancy brings good fortune.'

Earth is first described in the same words as the Creative Force of Hexagram 1 because they are partners in the flow of creation. Creation unfolds from the original vital energy, creating success with an ongoing exchange between spirit and daily work, flowing through to fruition – in Earth, through the constancy of a mare.
The mare is strong, tireless and incomparably fast, and she is acutely sensitive to the subtlest cues. When you have a mare's constancy, you will be steadily loyal to the truth, and always alert and responsive to guidance.
The noble one has a direction to go: she is purposeful, she has a destination in mind, but this doesn't mean she has her route to it already mapped out. And so at first there is confusion: you set out like a pioneer, open to all the possibilities, and find them as many as scattered rice-grains. But later, since you have set yourself in motion, you can receive guidance – you 'gain a master'.
A master is someone who lights the way. You gain someone or something to be loyal to, where you can find fulfilment in service. Once you have this guiding principle (which may or may not be a person), you begin to follow signs as fluently as the mare.
The Zhou people sought out allies in the southwest before venturing into the northeast to face the Shang. There is a balance to be found between joining with like-minded people and following your own calling alone – but gaining allies comes first. Perhaps your individual sense of purpose emerges more strongly when you've learned to work responsively with others, like the mare running with the herd.
And when you can spread your senses out to roam southwest and northeast without limit, you will be peacefully at home in the whole earth.
Image
'Power of the land: Earth.
A noble one, with generous character, carries all the beings.'

You don't need to copy all of that in Beekay, I find it distracting. I don't even know who you are quoting ? You do need to say who it is you are quoting. At first it looks like Hilary and then it's someone else ? But none of it is necessary, it's not your words.

You only need to post your question, the answer, some thoughts of your own, will link to a sticky explaining how to post a reading here.

The only bit of your post that is yours is this

"This is regarding a dog named Polly that we are forstering at the moment. I am wondering what is best for her? "

Hang on you haven't written in the change lines either. It should be 54.1.2.4>2

So if the reading is clearly written as 54.1.2.4>2 it is far easier to get to grips with it

Maybe you could keep her if you put her in her place as of secondary importance (54) ? I'm sure you already know dogs are naturally hierarchical, they attach to us as the pack leader however if at any point they feel you aren't pack leader they are going to be trouble.

I read your other thread and if the dog nips your 5 year old then I'm afraid in your shoes I wouldn't give it house room, I don't think dogs should be nipping anybody let alone a child. So surely this either has to be 'nipped in the bud' very sharply or get rid of the dog.

However this is a very compliant reading 'Marrying Maiden's Receptive'. The 2 is surely open to receive training, open to follow, to be in service. What is this dog's service ? I wondered if it had it's service it may stop nipping. By 'service' I mean role/job, different dogs have different ones. Labs like getting sticks and sheep dog like rounding things up and all that is part of their nature, their very genetic make up to which the rest of their life is in service. I'm seeing 54>2 as a dog in service (54) to it's own nature (2).

What's best for her seems to be she feels in service beneath her top dog, you ?

If this reading referred to what your relation is to the issue it might be saying a similar thing of you need to let this dog know you are pack leader.

These thoughts are a bit random but that's what comes to mind first. Line 4 may indicate you find a better home for her in due course, one where her innate capacities can be used more ?

FWIW - I for one appreciate posters going to the trouble of copying and pasting the I Ching hexagrams they are referencing. It saves me the trouble of tracking them down and also I can then see what translation they are using.

It takes more thought to explain in their own words and give their own thoughts on an answer than it does to copy and paste huge chunks of unnecessary text.

Also there are guidelines on how to share a reading here and it does not say copy and paste large swathes of text instead of writing yourself.

In general (not aiming this at beekay in particular) it is pointless copy and pasting all that when we need to hear the voice of the querent, the story of the querent and the interpretation of the querent.

If you don't care about hearing the querent, reading their own words and would much prefer a chunk of a book because it saves you looking it up that surely defeats the object especially when you only have one sentence from the querent to go on. I don't go running to books before considering the cast and what the querent says and I think it would be pretty awful if every query here were just a chunk of book with nothing much from the querent.

She is GSD mix, About 50 lbs. I caught her about to nip at him again and proceeded to do the angy ape schtik as per dog shows. She has not done it since.
