Is there a way in the search facility to identify all my readings that have the same number of changing lines?
Alternatively is there a way to list the all readings and against each reading will show the changing lines?.

My_key, not sure what you mean. Do you mean "list all readings that have 3 moving lines, no matter what those lines are"? (i.e. .1.2.3, .3.5.6, .1.4.5 in one list)

Or do you mean searching for exact readings, i.e. "list only my 33.2.3 to 6 readings, and no others"?

Your 2nd question: do you mean add a column to tables that displays the cast? Like in cast history results for hexagram 50:

style="width: 100%"
|-
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Date

| style="width: 25.0000%" | Entry Title
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Hexagram Type
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Reading
|-
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 2019-10-20
| style="width: 25.0000%" | What is this?
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Primary
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 50.1.2.5 to 13
|-
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 2018-07-06
| style="width: 25.0000%" | What is that?
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Relating
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 19.1.3.4.6 to 50
|-
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 2018-02-12
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Why and wherefore?
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Steps of change
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 14.1.3 to 64
...or something else? Could you give examples, if none of my guesses are right?

There is already the facility to find the change patterns which includes number of moving lines of course.

If you have bought the Resonance Journal why do you not have a yellow 'clarity supporter' badge ?

That's part of it, but I'm not sure what My_key's asking.

[edited later]
😃
It can be done! (Still not sure if it's what My_key wants, but nonetheless.)
  1. In the "Hexagrams:" box in the middle of the form, type in all the change patterns for the number of moving lines you want. (Can copy and paste from lists below.)
  2. Tick the Yang Pattern checkbox.
  3. Un-tick the Primary checkbox.
  4. Click Search.
unchanging: 2
1-line changes: 7,8,15,16,23,24
2-line changes: 3,4,19,20,27,29,35,36,39,40,45,46,51,52,62
3-line changes: 11,12,17,18,21,22,31,32,41,42,47,48,53,54,55,56,59,60,63,64
4-line changes: 5,6,25,26,28,30,33,34,37,38,49,50,57,58,61
5-line changes: 9,10,13,14,43,44
6-line changes: 1

If anyone finds mistakes in those lists, please tell me, of course... :paperbag:

My original questions were posed as I was looking to explore in my own readings Zhu Xi's Rules
Is there a way in the search facility to identify all my readings that have the same number of changing lines?
Alternatively is there a way to list the all readings and against each reading will show the changing lines?.

Do you mean "list all readings that have 3 moving lines, no matter what those lines are"? (i.e. .1.2.3, .3.5.6, .1.4.5 in one list)
Yes that's it. Ideally I'd like a summary table of the search too. So if I ask for all the readings ( irrespective of primary or relating hexagrams ) where I have had 3 moving lines a table is produced - a table like this or similar. Next search I could ask for results for 2 changing lines.

style="width: 100%"
|-
| Date

| Entry Title
| No of changing lines
| Reading
|-
| 2019-10-20
| What's the recipe today Jim?
| 3
| 50.1.2.5 to 13
|-
| 2018-07-06
| When is a door not a door?

| 3
| 51.4.5.6 to 42
|-
| 2018-02-12
| How many beans make five?
| 3
| 30.3.4.5 to 42
In my limited exposure to searching in the RJ (virtually nil) I was unable to form a search that gave me the result for Q1. Looking at the search tool I thought it might be easier for someone with a bit on savvy to do a search to give a summary table in response to Q2.

Your 2nd question: do you mean add a column to tables that displays the cast? Like in cast history results for hexagram 50:

| style="width: 25.0000%" | What is this?
| style="width: 25.0000%" | Primary
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 50.1.2.5 to 13
|-

| style="width: 25.0000%" | Steps of change
| style="width: 25.0000%" | 14.1.3 to 64
...or something else? Could you give examples, if none of my guesses are right?
Yes that's what I mean. It'd take a bit more manual intervention but I could find things easier than going into each reading to see and record the number of moving lines. Again what would be helpful in this a column headed 'No of changing lines' where here it would return anything from 0 to 6.

From here on in I am at a loss. I applaud what looks to be a huge amount of work to produce the multicolored chart however you left me scrabbling amongst" change patterns " and "Yang Pattern" .....which apparently has it's own checkbox ( lucky old yang pattern!!). Then your lists of line changes just blow me away completely. I have no idea what you are doing with all that stuff.

If I understood what you had done Liselle I'd be better placed to tell you if it is what I wanted. My instinctive response is that it doesn't look to fit the bill - Hex 19 could have different readings with 1, 2, 3 or 4 lines changing yet the chart shows only that it has a reading with 2 lines changing.

I hope this feed back helps you to help me.

Hi Trojina

I'd appreciate it if you could give some pointers as to how I could do this.
As for your second query - I do not know. I certainly have bought a RJ licence.

My_key, am @hilary -ing for your question about your supporter badge.

About your original question, I think you can get some of what you want with the admittedly horrendous lists. You can't, unfortunately, get a table, because Advanced Search doesn't make tables, and Cast History, which does make tables, doesn't let you enter lists of hexagrams.

  1. In the "Hexagrams:" box in the middle of the form, type in all the change patterns for the number of moving lines you want. (Can copy and paste from lists below.)
  2. Tick the Yang Pattern checkbox.
  3. Un-tick the Primary checkbox.
  4. Click Search.
unchanging: 2
1-line changes: 7,8,15,16,23,24
2-line changes: 3,4,19,20,27,29,35,36,39,40,45,46,51,52,62
3-line changes: 11,12,17,18,21,22,31,32,41,42,47,48,53,54,55,56,59,60,63,64
4-line changes: 5,6,25,26,28,30,33,34,37,38,49,50,57,58,61
5-line changes: 9,10,13,14,43,44
6-line changes: 1

I should have given you a screen clip in the first place, sorry. Fill out the Advanced Search form like this, for 3 changing lines - any 3 changing lines, but only 3, which is what I think you want.

Click the picture to enlarge it in Xenforo's light box. For other sets of lines, copy and paste one of the other lists.

You just tick the yang pattern box and untick the others to find the yang pattern etc - but Liselle has given full answer above.

Re clarity supporter badge, I don't know, I thought if anyone bought anything off Hilary they got a yellow badge which carries certain bonuses such as the capacity to tag others etc.

If you don't have that 'clarity supporter' badge even though you have bought something then Hilary is the one to go to to sort it out.

I @-ed Hilary in the post above about My_key's supporter badge.

My_key, please let me/us know if this works to get the list you want. Again, sorry for not giving you a screen clip in the first place. It's much easier to just look.

By the way ignore the weird graph. It has nothing to do with anything (unless Hilary the Sequence Queen 👑 finds something in it) - it's just that there were numbers in a spreadsheet cheeping "Graph me! Graph me!" so who am I to argue. 🐦

My_key, you might also be interested in this thread, which has more suggestions for using the Advanced Search form, as well as just other tips in general.
@hilary does it make any sense to sticky that one?

Yes, will sticky-fy the Tips & Tricks thread.

Re-badge: buying the Journal gives you 'Supporter' status for some months, but not forever. Change Circle and WikiWing are ongoing memberships, and Supporter status lasts as long as the membership.

Re-yang patterns: if you're not familiar with those, then Liselle's brilliant solution will be utterly confusing. In brief...

A change pattern is a hexagram that represents only which lines are changing in a reading. The yang pattern represents changing lines as yang/solid lines, and unchanging lines as yin/broken. So if just line 1 is moving you have |::::: as yang pattern. If lines 1 and 5 are changing, you have |:::|: as yang pattern.

What Liselle has done is to list all the hexagrams with 3 yang lines, in any configuration - which corresponds to yang change patterns for all possible readings with 3 changing lines. So if you run the search in her screenshot, you'll get the list of readings you wanted.

I noticed that my status changed from Senior Member to Visitor some weeks back so I guess that must have been some kind of cut off point.

So, the Yang pattern is the same as Karcher's Change Operators. I see how Liselles' listing works now. I have tried it too and it gives me the list I was looking for. Great Job @Liselle, Thanks
