Hi, Svenrus,
As a general rule we have difficulties in behaving like this, perhaps there is a lack of freeing ourselves in these situations to walk a careful path(hex10), full of integrity(hex15), on our part?

Of course, the tiger is not so patient by line 3!

I'll move this to Exploring Divination, since it's Yi-related and politics-free.

If the mighty Tiger do(es) not bite a man treading on it's tail why should we, men, not show forgiveness and kindness if a week (weaker) fellow man cross(es) our path in an unsuitable way ?
I think what you've said here is entirely possible, and it might be situational. Another interpretation for Hex. 10 (from Harmen Mesker) is:
Stepping on a tiger’s tail.
He does not bite the man.
The offering is accepted.

So, if someone had upset me (i.e. stepped on my tail, regardless if they are weaker or not), the Yi might be suggesting that I should not respond in kind (bite back), but instead I can see this situation as an offering - as a good thing.

Looking too at the trigrams, here we have Lake below Heaven: here our positive outlook (lake below) supports or is the basis for having a more full, comprehensive, (perhaps long range, or less reactive?) view of the situation. Having a positive outlook (not biting) can carry us through many situations where our 'tail' is (or we feel it is) being trod upon!

And if I had asked (hypothetically), 'what should I tell my friend about my chiropractic visit this afternoon?' I might glean a different meaning from Hex. 10.

Best, D

For my part it were an observation. I received it in a certain situation and it worked in that certain situation/timeframe for me. That same observation I made wouldn't possible have functioned neither earlier nor later as when it occured to me. (I think)

Mainly because we have gotten ahead of ourselves. I see this action more as a rebuke or rebuff rather than a mauling. A bit like mother tiger giving young tiger cub a cuff around the ear to reinforce a boundary that is not seen or adhered to. We have taken a step to far, too quickly and this is a way that advises us to retrace our step. We can then review and adapt in order to take the risky step of having another go in line 4.

Good to see you back posting.
Now that is a big question. I would suggest that it is the inherent strength of character in the tiger that makes the difference.
When man carries strength within himself he has no need to show strength externally. So a weak (small) man treading on his tail can be treated with kindness and compassion without having any need to feel threatened. A strong man can show vulnerability without feeling threatened. A weak man feels threatened and so strikes out as a way of self protection.

Actually when I asked the I Ching how finally and once and for all to get rid of my suspicious mind (which have frustrated me through countless years) getting hex. 10 UC I didn't understood this answer at all. I search insight in the books available to me without luck. A few days later a youngster provoked me and I didn't took notice wich I knew I should had done and could had done, but I let it pass. And it showed up to my surprise that he's provocation were harmless and inocent and I felt released that I had let it pass. It came to my attention that sometimes the answers given by I Ching not necessarily touch the inquery exactly but goes a bit further including things around the subject ie. my suspicious mind were spotlighted in this episode with this youngster. And maybe I left it for what it were because this ununderstandable answer, hex. 10 UC, lurked in my mind ? This I can't tell for sure, but I did the right thing in letting the youngsters provocation pass. Which led to my point of view noticed here.

No, it's too complicated to explain and I can see that misunderstandings can happen out of what I just wrote.... But I'm sure my observation were real.

Good morning surnevs: I sense that there are a few things going on here, perhaps happening on different levels - and from different points of view ....

You started with:
Hexagram 10 - My impression: If the mighty Tiger does not bite a man treading on it's tail why should we, men, not show forgiveness and kindness if a weak fellow man crosses our path in an unsuitable way ?
This feels like a general observation / interpretation of Hex. 10, - and not a response to a specific question. And others of us have shared our impressions, which all feel more 'general' to me. (And I think this is why Hilary moved your post to the Exploring Divination forum, and not to the more specific Shared Readings.) For me, this is all fine - and I don't sense any right or wrong, or any confusion .... it's just that we've all shared different impressions and interpretations about Hex. 10.

A bit later, however, you share more details about this, which feels like a 'reading' or query - where you asked the Yi a question and got a response:
I (you) asked the I Ching how ... to get rid of my suspicious mind (which have frustrated me through countless years), getting hex. 10 UC

I didn't understand (but then) .... A few days later a youngster provoked me ... but I let it pass. And it showed ... to my surprise that his provocations were harmless and innocent and I felt released that I had let it pass.

It came to my attention that sometimes the (Yi's) answers (include) things around the subject ie. my suspicious mind was spotlighted in this episode with this youngster.

And maybe I left it for what it was because this un-understandable answer, hex. 10 UC, lurked in my mind? .... I can't tell for sure, but I did the right thing in letting the youngsters provocation pass. Which led to my point of view noticed here.
So now we have more details about what you asked, how the Yi responded, how you understood it (or not), and in your case, you also had a real-world encounter that may have been related to the Yi's response. (Do I have that about right?)

I can see that misunderstandings can happen out of what I just wrote.... But I'm sure my observation were real.
I too feel your observations are real. And if there is any misunderstanding (which I'm not really sensing) perhaps it's only because we didn't understand that this is about a specific query - and not just general observations / interpretations about Hex. 10.

And all this makes me want to ask, do you now want us to comment / interpret / respond to your specific question: how (do I) get rid of my suspicious mind (which has frustrated me through countless years)? Response: Hex. 10 UC?

Kindly, D

Hi David, No. You should not answer this. It was to share my personal impression for information, more like another input to the section Hex. 10 UC. Thank You so much for reply ! sincerely Sven
