Hi my last reading was hexagram 11 changing to 36 which from what i can tell is positive turning into not so positive ,having trouble understanding the meaning ,my question is regarding having elective surgery for a long standing health problem
would really appreciate any insight on how to interpret this reading
Many thanks for reading
Thankyou

stop thinking positive and not positive
you will lose what you lose and win what you win
just do what needs doing
you take the path that optimizes long term survival

It helps if you put the changing lines. The changing line for you is 2. When you have only 1 line changing, the focus is more on that line, although reading through both hexagrams helps. 36 is not necessarily the result. 36 can be seen as the background/context of your question. So let's say you have an injury, then 36 can be seen as the injury you already have.

It helps to provide a clear picture of your situation and to provide the exact question you asked. You can at times put 36 and 11 together as a sentence. Here it could be something like, finding peace with your injury. (Depending on your current situation of course).

The line seems to say, go forward. Do what needs to be done, but avoid extremes. Help seems to be available. Be open to possibilities.

So if you can put that together with whatever your actual question was, you can follow the advice. Maybe that helps you see why Bradford suggested to get out of seeing any hexagram as negative or positive.

Best wishes on your journey

thank you that is very helpful do i focus on the 2nd lines of both hexagrams?
the question is whether having elective surgery will work on a long standing problem.. the nature of the surgery is a 50/50 chance being 50% chance of making my health much worse or much better or the other outcome no change ,its abdominal surgery where outcome can vary alot
Thanks for your imput

You read the change line only from the primary hexagram, 11.2.

I don't think Bradford was editorializing, I think he was interpreting your reading itself, though as a general rule, reading good or bad into a reading is not usually very helpful.

I've also found that inquiring for predictions, especially heath care predictions, have been inconclusive. I'd take the wisdom of the reading and just contemplate it as wisdom, and make your decision based on your own good judgment.

Perhaps LiSe's version, especially her commentary may be helpful. http://www.yijing.nl/i_ching/hex_1-16/hex_e_11.htm

Wishing you success with your decision.
