My question was: "Which course of action should I take in order to get communication unblocked between me and X?" and I got 12.1.4 to 42

Ok, so it means I should withdraw, not do anything as there's no point but how can "not doing anything" lead to Increase?

Or, maybe the Increase does not mean that the communication will be reestablished but rather that I'll experience increase if I give up on communicating with X altogether?

I remember to got this strange combination in the past! more than 10 years a go!
the question was about "communication" between me and my ex girlfriend!
at time there was a strange friendship between us!

the situation was that ... we had a phone appointment, but she didn't called me!
so after two hours I asked - if she would call me!
the answer was 12 -> 42

she couldn't phone me earlier because she was not a minute alone in the whole morning... only in the early evening, she had 5 minutes to call me from the rail station!
but finally she find a way to contact me!

my though was that she wouldn't call me... while she, the whole day, was looking for five minutes of freedom to do it!

I hope that this my past experience can help you in understanding!

I like your formulation " a strange friendship" as that is exactly what I' d call this between the two of us.

As for your experience - well, that kind of scenario is what I'd most certainly see as desirable but I was just wondering if things could point in a totally opposite direction...

One thing about hex 12 is that it can turn around in an instant. Sometimes the blockage seems permanent, but this is not true. It does not mean the upper trigram is fighting with the lower trigram. There is no fighting. The two trigrams are actually just moving in different directions, causing a gap in communications.

But the instant someone makes an effort (42) to re-connect, then the whole situation begins to reverse.

yep! I think like you about hex 12....

the imagine of 12 is more like a desert to me!
there is a motionless situation where there is no way to grow... like a seed of a plant ideas-intention-action do not find nothing that could sustain it!

but un/fortunately things are different depending if you get it as single, first or second hex! and the difference grow obviously in relation to the moving lines!
time! is related to what you in/voluntarily have take in consideration!

If I am the blocked one, I can always decided to start cooperating instead of always moving in the other direction.

If an external situation is stagnant or blocked, then I have to wait until it gets unblocked by someone else, I guess. That's a pretty terrible situation to be in, sometimes.

X reestablished the communication through a mutual friend.
