Hello Fellow Diviners:)! I'm hoping you can clear up some confusion here. I seem to have an odd effect on this person. Can't tell if I'm annoying them or if they enjoy my company... Maybe both:confused:? Anyway, it is important that this person is warmly disposed to me. So, I asked, "What effect do I have on X?" and I got 14.2.3.4.6>24. So, I didn't really know what to make of the lines here, there are so many. Sounds like they feel I bring out their good side. I'm basing this off the text for the image of 14, which I put below, and the idea of 24 as the ruturn of light forces. Does anyone else have any ideas on this one? And, this is weird:confused:!.... I just asked "How should I behave with X?" and I got the same reading! 14.2.3.4.6>24! There it is again! What does it mean:brickwall:?! I'm reading this as be sincere and modest. I have a feeling I am missing something big here though because this came up twice, and I don't see anything all that illuminating here :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:. Aaaaaah... Does anyone else have any ideas how to interpret this?
Thanks to all who reply:confused:,
:brickwall:DWF:bows:

THE IMAGE

Fire in heaven above:
The image of POSSESSION IN GREAT MEASURE.
Thus the superior man curbs evil and furthers good,
And thereby obeys the benevolent will of heaven.

The sun in heaven above, shedding light over everything on earth, is the image of possession on a grand scale. But a possession of this sort must be administered properly. The sun brings both evil and good into the light of day. Man must combat and curb the evil, and must favor and promote the good. Only in this way does he fulfill the benevolent will of God, who desires only good and not evil.

I think the I Ching's telling you not to worry because this X enjoys your company.

Judgment:
POSSESSION IN GREAT MEASURE.
Supreme success.

You possess so much greatness so that you are meeting with success.

Nine in the second place means:
A big wagon for loading.
One may undertake something.
No blame.

Basically the same as the judgment, proceed with strength because your wagon is loaded and you can forge new relationships with strength.

A prince offers it to the Son of Heaven.
A petty man cannot do this.

In most translations it's a prince/duke offering to a son of heaven/emperor, it changes with each, but the meaning's the same in all of them. You view this X as superior to you, yet you offer knowledge and friendship to them anyway. Someone worse than you could not do this out of fear and selfishness. Again, no worries.

Nine in the fourth place means:
He makes a difference
Between himself and his neighbor.
No blame.

Rarely do I think Wilhelm/Baynes over-complicate things, usually they make it so much simpler. But in this case it's needlessly blown up. A more literal translation would have it say, "Do not be overbearing. No blame.". Pretty straight forward, give X some space. When we're worried about relationships we tend to overcompensate. I think the I Ching's just warning you not to do that.

He is blessed by heaven.
Good fortune.
Nothing that does not further.

AGAIN! This X clearly likes you. If he/she's "odd", then they're just odd. I Ching's told you this TWICE. You just need to relax. Maybe back up a little bit (as in line 4), but relax because you're doing fine. The whole thing has the potential of Return, which is another good sign.

Thanks for the quick reply, Mryou1:). Oh, that makes perfect sense. With a few other readings as well. I think you are right. Maybe am crowding them a bit. I just like hanging with them, but sometimes in a group, maybe I monopolize their availability a little. I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes:duh:. Thanks, Mryou1:bows:

Actually, I do have a question, if you're still out there. What do you mean the potential of Return. What does that mean here? Or anybody else have a take on that.

Hm.. the 24 aspects of the readings. Have you had effects on x before? Or is there something you can 'do' that you did before in regards to x? :) Or! is x like someone from your past?

Is there some sort of cycle in this whole situation that you are starting over?

X is fairly new to my life, and have never had any problems with them, so not sure. It is possible that X is like someone from my past or I have had some other effect on them in the past, but I can't place what this is referring to exactly. I don't think I know them well enough yet to say, but I guess will find out over time. Perhaps this is just referring to the beginning of a new cycle, which I am in, and this person fits in with that. Thanks AQ:).

I ran into this thread, as I received the same for a question. With regard to #24, I think of Rumi's poem of "return to the root of the root of your own self" (Chittick translation). It is a very long poem, but here are a few stanzas:

Although in form you are earthly, you have
been kneaded from certainty's substance.
You guard the treasury of God's Light - so come,
return to the root of the root of your own self!
Once you have tied yourself to selflessness, you
will be delivered from selfhood
and released from the ties of a hundred
snares - so come, return to the root of the root of your own self!

Your were born children of God's
vicegerent, but you have turned your eyes to this low world.
Alas, how can you be happy with just this? So
come, return to the root of the root of your own self!
Though you are the talisman protecting the
world's treasure, within yourself you are the Mine.
Open your hidden eyes and come, return to the root of
the root of the root of your own self!

Thanks Nahema:)! The return to yourself theme comes up for me fairly often lately. It is definitely helpful to have songs and poems to go along with the meaning we find in out readings. What a great poem! I love it, and how thoughtful of you to post it for me:bows:.
