I had this shoulder injury about 2 weeks ago but i haven't been able to rest it because I am on an intensive yoga teacher training course.

I've never had any injuries in my 1 year of practice and whenever I felt any aches I would rest myself completely before resuming my practice.

This time however, it was impossible for me to rest my shoulders since the course that i am on is intensive and I am not allowed to miss even a single day. So i'm feeling really helpless!! My real fear is that the injury will linger on and off - this will not be good since it will greatly hinder my real enjoyment of yoga and possibly prevent me from doing some of the more advance asanas..

So i asked "What do I need to know about completely healing my injury?" 14.2.4.6 > 36

Hexagram 14 seems favorable enough, but 36 suggests otherwise.. What do you guys think?

(my course ends today and I have already fixed up an appointment with the osteopath tomorrow to see what can be done ... )

14.2 is a positive omen that you are basically a healthy person.
14.4 but you must not abuse your body.
14.6 you have the tools to heal.

36. Now take some time out and give your self a chance to heal.

Hope your doctor's visit went well.
Let us know..

It suggests that your body can deal with this successfully, line 14.2 but it does indicate the need to avoid over stressing your shoulder, line 14.4, especially in a training course like now. Therefore concentrate on other positions and leave the shoulder ones out.

But after the course you will certainly need to take time out for healing.

No offense, but why haven't you consulted the sage before? Since you are done training now, the answer is there.

You asked the I Ching when you already had scheduled the appointment with the osteopath. The osteopath's knowledge is the 'wealth you already possess': Hexagram 14. He must be a really great doctor!

14.2: Seeing this doctor will involve no error.

14.4: Be careful with the shoulder. Don't compare yourself to other yoga students who can do more than you at this time.

14.6: This line is said to signify the utmost success.

Let us know what happens :)

Good news guys!!

Went to the osteopath yesterday and basically she discovered that a rotator blade muscle (supraspinatus) was loose and was flicking in and out of place. No tendonitis, no tears ... phew!!!

The visit went really well, she tweaked my supraspinatus back into position and prescribed a range of exercises meant to strengthen my rhomboids muscle just so to keep everything in place.

In the course of the consultation, the osteopath also discovered that I had genetically loose ligaments and tendons and so although it makes for great flexibility, i do have to work on building up my muscles around my major joints. And she's going to progressively help me with this by introducing more muscle exercises.

Although the osteopath has said that there is no problem doing yoga, I have self-prescribed 1 week of rest from yoga completely just to work on muscles on my own (while watching the world cup of course :) I think thats hexagram 15

PHEW!!!!!
:)
