Good Sunday everyone,
having someone revisited my old post made me ask somewhat the same question again and would like to read what getting 15.5 turned to be advising you.
The q. was: What will be the next big issue to tackle with, considering my financial situation and everything connected...15.5<39

Current situation-I was sent to a yearned work pause which I viewed as a reward (dare I say holidays) to enjoy some sort of accomplishment after trying times but without paycheck and unable to get a loan or any help I had to sit at home, putting all my plans aside, such as some overdue house improvements which this weather is perfect for, not to mention far more serious obligations had to be skipped which led me to worry excessively and put me into a very resentful state of mind.
I don`t trust myself to be in the right frame of mind for work on Monday, as money is not just unfortunately dated but it is also LATE in coming.
In short, nobody seems to care.

In this light I am not sure what I am being advised- to limp away, tough it out silently, look for another job?
Hilary simply states that one should settle for what one has got or look for better circumstances....
LiSe seems to be pointing out than one has to suck it up. And the translations are a bit confusing:

6 at 5: Not rich through one's neighbor. Harvest: benefit of cleaning stables and chopping wood. There will be harvest.
Do not stay a proud person and die by starvation. Get what you need, even if it means taking up lowly jobs, forgetting your principles or losing your macho. A healthy dog is better than a dead superman. Who says supermen are so great anyway?
(Changes to hex.39)

Line-5

Legge: The fifth line, magnetic, shows one who, without being rich, is able to employ her neighbors. She may advantageously use the force of arms. All her movements will be advantageous.

Wilhelm/Baynes: No boasting of wealth before one's neighbor. It is favorable to attack with force. Nothing that would not further.

Blofeld: In treating his neighbors, he is modest about his wealth. If he now attacks the rebels, everything will contribute to his success.

Liu: Do not show off your riches to your neighbor. It is beneficial to attack with force. It is favorable for everything.

Ritsema/Karcher: Not affluence: using one's neighbor. Harvesting: availing-of encroaching subjugating. Without not Harvesting.

Shaughnessy: Not wealthy together with his neighbors; beneficial herewith to invade and attack; there is nothing not beneficial.

Cleary (1): Not enriching oneself, one shares with the neighbors. It is beneficial to make an invasion, which will profit all.

Cleary (2): Not rich, employing the neighbors, it is beneficial in invasion and attack; all will profit.

Wu: He is capable of influencing his neighbors, despite his lack of wealth. It will be advantageous to take military actions. [Military actions are advantageous only if used to quell an insurrection, but certainly not to launch an aggression.]

I know nothing good will come from complaining, so I am not sure how/what attacking is to be aimed at/for. This situation is seriously taking a tall on my well being. And I know it is a short notice but I would be grateful for some input today.

What will be the next big issue to tackle with, considering my financial situation and everything connected...15.5<39

I have not the silver bullet and I have to admit the context of your question is not clear to me i.e. is this question has to do with your work or its about your general approach to things. You need to decide till Monday so I surmise must be for the current work situation yet the rest of your post points to other directions too .

so, just offering some thoughts , just in case there're of some help.

Hex 39 sometimes feels like there is no way out because of external circumstances, our own disposition, or both. Road's closed.

I came across the following and especially the bolden one brought in mind hex15

In everyday life, self-efficacy leads us to set challenging goals and to persist.
More than a hundred studies show that self-efficacy predicts worker productivity
(Stajkovic & Luthans, 1998). When problems arise, a strong sense of self-efficacy
leads workers to stay calm and seek solutions rather than ruminate on their inadequacy.
Competence plus persistence equals accomplishment. And with accomplishment,
self-confidence grows. Self-efficacy, like self-esteem, grows with hard-won
achievements.

Wilhelm says : "The superior man carries things through" . Competence and efficiency is some traits I see necessary for this endeavor to be accomplished. Between the different definitions of modesty what makes more sense in 15 is : "Having or showing a moderate ( accurate) estimation of one's own talents, abilities, and value."

My impression is that it hasn't to do with equalizing but assign real values. So, i guess a H15 person can say "yeah !! I'm good on that" and at the same time " F$#@ !! that's beyond my skills" He don't fuss over those because the main goals is accomplishment neither compare himself to others - for the sake of comparison- just to reflect and gain a perspective on how he can use his strengths and find alternatives for the limitations. Discern what is about the situation, what is about the way we act.

15.5 also asks for action to reverse the h39 situation. and sometimes we need help and we have to go out and ask it or enforced it in some ways. I was serious ill and getting more ill and i thought i was asking help to take away from me some duties but long after I realized I didn't really ask , loud and clear , help. What would be more wise would be to just take a leave , whether they liked it or not. I'm not suggesting to do that by all means. I 'm just saying that I failed to prioritize my course of actions.

That's the feeling i get from your reading too. You need a reality check; what happens inside and outside;prioritize;make decisions ; plan actions. Sometimes even a change doesn't occur immediately, only the fact that we decide to do X thing opens the way and makes as feel less lost .

Yes, well, it is a lot lurking from this question out....I was asking what may happen in general, considering my money situation, because it all seams to be about surviving and nothing is enough.
That tension is much harder to bare since my stress bucket is still in bad shape and so when money comes late or whatever new destroys any shred of getting ahead, I sink in deeper than most would.
Especially hurtful subject is that I am unable to join normal world, always lacking basics other seem to have acquired before and indeed always limping.....I wish to correct my attitude in order to carry on but I lack enthusiasm after this many disappointments piling up.
I did not rest. My batteries are empty. This is not the way to go onwards but seems that IC is telling I will have to push even harder to accomplish some kind of smoother sailing through life.

I've read somewhere on this forum that this line talks about a situation where the "neighbours" were supposed to help with some war effort or something, as was their duty but stood by and let whatever king fight on his own. This line talks about how in a case such as this, it is not out of the norm of the hexagram to punish those who have let you down, as long as it is still within the norm - still keep it humble. This fits in with situations when I've had it. It says that you can express dissatisfaction with things in order to get around the obstruction. To me this says you are within your rights to complain if their lack of payment is causing you trouble. As long as you do it respectfully and professionally, it will go well. After all, you did your work, you should get your money. You've done absolutely nothing wrong.

What I understand about 39 is that there is a serious obstruction that is blocking whatever you want. 39 Does not tell you to overwin that obstruction by fighting it with your last bit of strenghth, but rather that you should focus on yourself. You say your battery is empty, maybe you should give it all a rest and focus on yourself instead. That way you will get your strenghth back and with that newly found strenghth you must and will overwin the obstruction from 39.

I hope this helps.

Yes, now I remember seeing that thread also....they do not care for causing me trouble-not just me.
No one gets hurt within administration too big and it is not their first time...this time I am vexed especially because I am frightened for missing payments and getting stripped of any feeling of validation. Of course, this will happen again. SO I was wondering if I am advised to look for additional work, get drunk, heavily medicate myself?
How can you punish something bigger than yourself....or get the time you lost back :brickwall:

No work, no moneys, mazaru....but it is a very good point :bows:

Everybody is back at work but still no payment.Attacking with force I suppose means not giving up in asking for it, but personally, I find that humiliating, not to mention serious work atmosphere downer.
Even tho continuation of contract throughout the year was offered and I am stressed out beyond normal (because this effects my sick mother provisioning etc. by administrative lack of efficiency on their side),
I was told to get use to it or leave.

Neither be arrogant with one`s power nor compromising to the disobedience/Forcibly correct what is wrong

hi dragona,

15/39 makes me think a lot about finding the right proportions between the obstruction blocking your way and tending to your own person . . 15 talks of reducing and augmenting accordingly, in order to balance things out and get them back to size. It also speaks about carrying things through, not using the wrong ideas stopping you from what needs to be done - seems to me to be advising you to claim your ground if those around you ('neighbors') are stepping all over it - it's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it.

The thing with mountains, even when they stay below an open and loyal plane of activity, is that they don't budge when it comes to their value; this is what 15 says here, imo
Last of Wilhelm's commentary on the line are also quite illuminating as to how to go ahead with it:

The measures taken should be purely objective and in no way personally offensive. Thus modesty manifests itself even in severity.

eta: not sure what you meant with your last phrase in your post: did they propose to you to get used to delayed payments or leave, or something else?

There's an interesting bit of trivia tying 39 to limping. The ancient Greeks wore sandals a lot. When you get a pebble caught in one it cripples you for a moment, until you stop what you are doing and take care of the problem. The Greek word for those pebbles was "scruples."

The plot thickens. Payment delay goes above inertia within administration, not that it does not exist.
I guess it underlines the importance of hex 39 in this instance.
There is nothing much I can do but wait and not complain too much because it is not the most popular subject. There are no other jobs on the market and I am half way through for qualification exam, so not really in the position to walk away just so, even tho I am just outside help in a sense and that is the part of the different treatment.
Having said that, back to the question asked, other than examining my own issues-which only makes me feel even more stressed out and trapped, I wonder if there was an advice of practical nature offered also that I am missing, other than to persevere? What conclusions are to be made?

I see that you are located at Europe , so I wonder if you live in one of those countries that are under austerity or recession. If the company you work for is a profitable one and has not problem of surviving, then you better look elsewhere but if its one of those that try to keep it open and don't wish to fire people unless is totally necessary then it might be helpful to know that and put away those thoughts of not being validated or treated as you deserve. Of course you deserve all those things , don't take me wrong. What i try to say is whether you see this situation in a very personal way- like they do x,y,z, things to you- or your are in a situation that what you experience is the consequences of a greater problem. I think the reality check sometime h15 suggests its the way to clear the fog of h39.

"take it or leave it" can be read in two different way and this is something I think you need to clarify in you. Take it or leave it here, with almost 28% official general unemployment rate ( technically is much higher) and specifically 60% in young people. its sad , but this is the reality we have to face. Some companies take advantage of this situation to make money, others they try to do their best to survive and keep their company alive and keep their employees' jobs.

I wonder if its possible you and your colleagues have a talk with management and find a way to assure that at least a proportion of your monthly compensation can be on time so it will save you all a great amount of anxiety. If they don't want or they can't its two different scenarios. If you can find a better work or a part time that will fill some holes then start looking.

hey Brad,
actually it was the Romans who used the idea of a small stone in one's shoe metaphorically (source) but thanks for bringing it up - it makes a lot of sense with the limping part of 39!

Dragona I was trying to say something of a more practical nature in my earlier comments but I realize I only partly verbalized it, thinking it was clear enough as it was. What I was thinking of with balancing things out was to make what arrangements are possible in order to bypass the harsher aspects of your situation. The self-reflection advice given in 39 doesn't need to be directed towards yourself as a person but towards observing the road that brought you across this obstacle and how you can move around it. That could mean being flexible outside (water upper trigram) while steady within (mountain). It could mean to use any local/temporary opportunities to balance your account (babysitting, assistant or even waitressing jobs, any part-time occupation that could help you lighten up the weight till things get back in track. Or it could even mean to spread the word to friends and relatives for any jobs/part time help positions that will help you through. Or anything similar (I find Lise's comments are rather illuminating in that sense) - do whatever will take you through the day with the least stress involved.

My most strange (and illuminating!) experience with hx39 was when I'd leave on a sailing trip, which was constantly described by Yi as 39. There were no obvious obstacles to tackle, no self-ruminating or criticizing and no pronounced difficulties involved. What was there though, was the ways water moves over and above rocks, by encircling them rather than antagonizing or trying to push through them, and how a sailing boat circumnavigates the occasional obstructing natural elements to reach its destination . .

So if you find your inner attitude towards yourself is too harsh, mellow it down to help yourself. If the world out there is too resistant, try to find your own way over it - look at what allows for flexibility and augment it and similarly, at what is harsher and minimize as much as possible the friction at the points it touches upon you . .

If there ever was a hexagram for the path of least resistance, I think 39 would make for a heck of a candidate!

I hope things lighten up soon for you - take care!

Oh, where to start...I try not to be too specific but then it leads to confusion in good people trying to be supportive.
It is a good job when you get to learn new skills, are not bullied and fairly paid, IMO. I am not complaining. I had it much worse.
But I cannot change my status anytime soon. So nothing you have suggested would work-perhaps hard to believe it but we are not in too deep for lack of trying to ruin our economy for many years.

I had a very exhausting year on personal level and I desperately needed some rest both physically and mentally, not more disappointments and delays and being broke all summer. So that is why I take this so hard, especially since I need regular income to support both myself and help out for a sick parent and not constantly fret when or how late will I be to fulfill my obligations, how will I survive etc....
I am planning to try something from home but I have no energy or enthusiasm at all, a state which I hate.

I admit I do not fully comprehend the meaning of hex 15, but it has to do with balancing things out within oneself. Which is in my state of mind very hard work that requires help from very absent "friends".
I think this week I will know more.

This is both kind and wise, thank you very much.
I am in a bad shape, too rigid to be like water-air is my element, but water is more systematic one.
I also think that I m toooooo loose and without any discipline over myself - even an Aquarius have to admit some discipline in life is needed. Stating the obvious, ""you are mentally and emotionally exhausted and it has taken a toll on your life in total" does not help me much because I am only going through the motions and fake smiles as it is, I do not think I can do more alone.

hey there,

sorry to read about your troubles . . things sound really tough.
There are possibly out there a number of paths to find your way through this dead-end time of your life - accepting that such lows are still part of a successful life has done it for me at those times - losing a series of battles does not mean you've lost the war, as the saying goes

You mentioned Aqua and I'm rather well-versed in Aqua qualities, having friends and my father Aqua suns and me being an Aqua moon so I'm tempted at this point to say a couple of things but I wouldn't wanna hijack our YiJing thread or sound presumptuous about someone I barely know - if you wish though, I could share some of my own thoughts about Aquas (and, yeah, their need for structure too ;) )

be well!

Still nothing. Even tho I was reassured otherwise. I know the reasons and I think they are really unfair.
How will this situation with work and payment resolve? Hex 60 unchanged
All I get from this cast atm is that rules are meant for everyone to follow and if broken, one is not to be too bitter about it. Or maybe, the matter is being decided upon.
Have you got any insight here perhaps?

An update on hex 60, if anyone`s interested.
The next day I have learned that everything is to get back to normal, and limitations are lifted.
But still no money, cos they have more important papers to go through due the standstill before catching up on ours. :brickwall:
I feel tremendous amount of guilt for not meeting my obligations towards my sick parent. Now of course, I am missing two payments and that cannot go unnoticed.
And still see no lesson to get out of this, other than never depend on wages alone, but that is not new.
IC tells me to do 24 un when I asked what segment of my life is in the greatest need of my attention. Do not even know where to start.
That is all, than you for your kind thoughts :hugs:
