Hello

To my question re: a future meeting/overall energy surrounding my future meeting with someone, I received 45.Meeting/Clustering with changing lines 3 and 4.

Changing line 3 says the meeting will not go well
Changing line 4 says the meeting will go wonderfully

Which one do I go with?
I am a bit puzzled as to why there are 2 such conflicting answers - was it that my questions was left a bit vague?

Thanks

Part of the problem is asking about "energy" which really doesn't mean much. If you are concerned with energy, which I doubt, then you have two contradictory strains where something will go well and something will not go well. However, generally speaking, 45 overall is a very good gua. Nevertheless, what is obvious to me is that this individual will bring you something good, but you may not bring something as good to the meeting. I understand that because 45 is bring people together in an advantageous and prosperous way. The problem is that the future gua brought about by lines 3 and 4 moving is 39, which is generally inauspicious for anything. You will be placed in a situation where you can neither move forward nor move backward. You are thrown into an adversity that requires great care to solve.

I'm of the school that says old yin dominates these changing lines - in this case, line 3. There's a potential for pairing up, but it's not a strong potential, more of an indulgence on the part of the other party.

Leading to 39-Trouble. 'nuff said?

Don't forget the relating hexagram 39...you needed those 2 lines to move to get 39. infact i tend to hold the simplistic view that you get the lines to get to the relating hex so don't ignore it here its crucial. So the context of this question is the situation is one of limping. You are attempting to gather together in somewhat inhospitable circumstances or it has all felt rather stymied in some way.

Hilary says of 45.3 something like the more you pour into making this work the more you lament. IOW don't expect too much emotionally, just get on with relating to the other as best you can. 45.4 looks like a bit of progress possible. So they aren't opposing lines just a progression of what looks like a rather unfulfilling meeting that might improve if you don't go OTT in wanting to make things work. Relax a bit about it. Don't attempt the impossible or try to make things work how you did before (39). You don't have to make things work out all by yourself here (45.4) let the other do some work

(I am Nanoubix - had to log in under another pseudo as the old one wouldn't get me through)

Thanks for your insights. I had my meeting today. Amazingly, both lines are now making complete sense. The realisation of it grasped me as I started to make my way home. Line 3 reading did occur - at the end of the meeting, I felt as if the connection hadn't been made. I couldn't blame myself for it. I genuinely felt I had given all I could in the circumstances to make it work. I was almost resigned to give up, without too much sorrow - we were perhaps not compatible, or the timing was wrong. We were both rather agitated - frustated, as in the reading? when we decided to part. Then something came about - something that we both wanted to talk about but hadn't found the moment or the courage to do? - and everything cleared up. At the very end. A big cloud of uncertainty blown away by the wind. We're meeting again next week.

I am new to the i-ching and I am speechless.
