Hello all,

A possible long haul / high stakes project is taking shape. I would be working on it with a colleague (different profession, no overlap of roles, no contractual or hierarchical relationship) I know fairly well, but not **that** well. The collaboration would require trust, transparency and accountability for the project to take off smoothly. I've provided full disclosure, yet am not sure the other party has at this stage.

I asked the Yi whether there should be anything I should be aware of concerning this person, and received 20.5 > 23. I'm not sure who the Yi is speaking about - me or the collegue. So I asked a follow-up question - what if I had a talk with this person about my little niggling doubts - and got 20.5 > 23 again!

Thank you for your insights! :bows:

Hello flashlight

Although I am not sure I really understand the context you are presenting, as far as the line go, I would say, the I Ching is throwing the question back at you and saying, pay attention. Therefore it is speaking both of you and the other person. Pay attention to the effects you produce, and the effects the other person produces. In that lies the key. This is a time when you will have to be very, very attentive and aware of what is going on around you.

I get the feeling, in looking at this, that you already know the answer to the question at some level. The changing line leads to hexagram twenty three, which speaks of stripping something away, or pruning. The fact that you ask the question hints to me that you already have some lingering doubts. Analyze those doubts, see where they come from. Analyze them with a view of deciding whether they are really valid or not.

True, my intuition is feeling a bit unsettled. It's nothing I can name concretely. I've pondered what could be the trigger to no avail, and the feeling lingers. Thus why I asked the Yi about having a talk with this person about it... and it tossed back the same answer.
It seems to be one of those situations where one needs dialog to clarify things and I'm not clear whether the Yi thinks it's a good idea to do so or not.

(pause)
I just asked the reverse question - what if I DID NOT have a talk with this person about my niggling doubts and got 29.1.2.6 to 42 (I never have a good feeling when getting 29!). it does sound like there is progress though...

An aside --
I'm pretty new at using the Yi, but one thing I've noticed is that if I feel good and calm about something and ask about it anyway, the answer strikes me as gentle, uplifting and encouraging. When I am searching for greater understanding or clarity about something I have doubts about or am struggling with, the answers seem less friendly and much harder to understand. Is that other newbies' experience too??

Thanks for sharing your knowledge :bows:

I completely agree with the part about a difference in the result depending on whether you ask a question from a calm mind or when agitated.

It's a good practice to meditate for awhile to quiet the mind before asking Yi a question.

Thanks for the reminder Ginnie :)
I try to do that, it's more challenging though when asking a question about something that is troubling or a concern!

Self-cleanse prior to Divinations.

The problem I find is that whilst it seems a good thing to do, to meditate or clear one's mind before asking a question of I Ching, I still think often the answer simply reflects either that state of mind, or any other...so that whatever answer comes might not be realised if one is off-centre at the time when the result might be realized. As a result the result is different from the divination anyway.

Sometimes my readings about practical events are uncannily accurate, apparently unaffected by my moods and actions, just fate,--- Othertimes - often when asking about more nebulous, more abstract things, they do not seem to be fulfilled at all as predicted.

These factors, along with the ambiguity of the 'answers', often creates in me a lot of confusion and frustration. I can put much of that down to my own lack of insight, intuitive ability. But it can be sometimes rather -------irritating.

Not of course that this reaction is necessarily in any way reasonable - especially if the reality of I ching is that it simply reflects back my own unconscious knowledge. My only reasonable complaint then becomes that the translations and commentaries, or the original Sage did not do such a brilliant job of psychic link-up from the tortoise shell (or whatever).
