Hello everyone,

I have received this answer so many times since the end of last September that it now has its very own folder in my inbox (15 on record altogheter so far). Looks like Yi's trying to tell me something, right. The trouble is, what? I would really appreciate your help in connecting different aspects of this answer, i.e., Hexagram 24/ Line 1/ Hexagram 2, and interpreting them into a meaningful whole.

My questions, by the way, ranged from 'How do I best fulfil my purpose?'
to 'Yi's straightforward answer about my relationship with Him' to 'How do I find my home?' to, er, ''Asking Yi too many questions?'...

Below are some of the interpretations of the Line 1, the one in red borrowed from 2010 posts by our fellow members tuckchang and fkegan, in green from Karcher and the orange one from Hatcher (thank you all).

Fu means to return or to recover. In terms of the I Ching, the line moving forth along the timeline is signified as 'to go', while the line moving backward is 'to come'. From the perspective of the image and the sequence, the masculine line 6 of Hex 23 has survived and returns to position 1 of Hex 24. It is a recovery of masculinity and Fu is the turning point.

Fu doesn’t have to return to the old one; its recovery can develop to a new generation.
From the perspective of the hexagram text, masculinity recovers and it will proceed smoothly. The masculine returns to a place occupied by the feminine; it will encounter resistance but it will grow stronger by means of more and more masculine lines joining; it won’t be hurt and can be free from calamity. From masculinity vanishing (at Hex 44, Gou, wherein masculinity starts to vanishing) gradually to its return will take seven days (i.e. 7 hexagrams, please see the attached below). Back to Fu is the rule of mutual increase and increase between the masculine and the feminine; it is instrumental in doing what is planned.

The commentary on its image suggests ‘to rest and build up strength’, like the world just starting to revive from the day of the winter solstice, the late king (giving an order of) closing all the passes, so that all the merchants and the passengers wouldn’t travel, and the king wouldn’t make an inspection tour.

From the perspective in viewing the line’s performance, line 1 is the founding line and represents Fu, i.e. the returning masculine. The other feminine lines are leaving it (as the line is developing along the timeline) and need to make corrections in order to return to position 1.

The return implied in Hex 24 is that of a clear focus solely upon the roots and beginning of this current situation. Absolutely nothing has developed beyond this stirring of the roots. The only line of focus, a Yang line is in the first place. Like a fertile seed everything depends upon what will develop next and how.

Moving lines in hexagram 24 would indicate what is developing next, how this pure fertile seed is germinating and growing. Line 1 is generally very good, the seed is being a seed and its resultant is the fertile earth which supports and nourishes all seeds.

***DO NOT MERELY THALK ABOUT RETURNING, DO IT. GO BACK TO THE SOURCE. THE WAY IS FUNDAMENTALLY OPEN IF YOU DO. IT WILL RENOVATE YOUR WHOLE BEING.

***Even the greatest or truest of paths must be thought to include some of these smaller digressions and trips aside. Being oneself is being true to one’s nature, and nobody experiments quite like nature. Life is for learning.

The straight and narrow directions are heedless of most of this world. The most respectable man in the world should be permitted, if it is his choice, to enjoy women’s toes a little too much. It’s these little flaws in the art of our lives that let evil spirits out.

Life needs to explore its options and this can’t always be done only inside of the mind. Stepping off the side of the path to have a good look around, or simply to relieve yourself, is not a great mistake. The shortest distance between two points is the distance traveled in fact: it isn’t the one in the plan. The guilt of one who fears to stray will make of his path a deep rut.

So... What do you think the answer is? I'm lost in a detail and can't see the woods for the trees...

Many thanks,

Grace

hi,

Having received the line for so many and different readings makes me think that what you're looking for here is a very general idea that can guide you down all those paths . . So here's some brainstorming thoughts to play with: the line's space is yin, it's feelin its way onwards. Coming and going in an area that feels open and natural can hardly go wrong -it's like walking down a place that feels home, even if you're covering new territory; things can fall into place and transgressions have not yet turned into abuse. 24 starts in winter, touching base, getting back to the basics, knowing you belong and you're becoming whole and intact - again, once more, tryin out along lines of openly living out yourself

hope that helps some -
