Hey,

So I have had a sincere wanderlust since a very young age, in fact one of my birth hexagrams is the wanderer :) But up until now, I haven't had the money to go anywhere for a long amount of time, a week or two here and there, only in Europe and the U.S.

I turn 30 in December and feel like i have missed the opportunity to travel in my 20's, that decade which is traditionally coined as being the adventurous and experimental years of your life. Not to say that I agree particularly with this, but I thought i'd add it as i think this idea is getting me down a bit, if i'm honest :(

So I asked the Yi, 'Will I travel extensively in the next year?'

24.4 >51

RETURN. Success.
Going out and coming in without error.
Friends come without blame.
To and fro goes the way.
On the seventh day comes return.
It furthers one to have somewhere to go.

Line 4:

Walking in the midst of others,
one returns alone.

A man is in a society composed of inferior people, but is connected spiritually with a strong and good friend, and this makes him turn back alone. Although nothing is said of reward and punishment, this return is certainly favorable, for such a resolve to choose the good brings its own reward.

I get really confused about the idea of 'Return'. I know from Clarity that this often means a return to your centre, but in this context I'm fairly lost about what the IC is trying to tell me here.

Thanks as always for reading and giving your thoughts :)

recommended film to watch for 24.4>51, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and I post these ;lyrics somewhat tongue-in-cheek for its cheesiness (and this be the reason to have seen Priscilla)

Hey lady, yes, you lady, cursing at your life
You're a discontented mother and a regimented wife
I've no doubt you dream about the things you'll never do
But, I wish someone had talked to me
Like I wanna talk to you.....

Oh, I've been to Georgia and California and anywhere I could run
I took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me

Please lady, please lady, don't just walk away
'Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me still living in your eyes
Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived million lies....

Oh, I've been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht
I've moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

[spoken]
Hey, you know what paradise is?
It's a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be
But you know what truth is?
It's that little baby you're holding, it's that man you fought with this morning
The same one you're going to make love with tonight
That's truth, that's love......

Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children that might have made me complete
But I took the sweet life, I never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free
Hey lady......
I've been to paradise, (I've been to paradise)
But I've never been to me

(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Neice and the isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to cryin' for unborn children that might have made me complete)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise, never been to me

ha! Yip i know that one... cheesetastik!

you bring your head with you no matter where you are, for better or worse, but i would like the independence that comes with that. I want to strike out on my own and its nothing to do with any airy-fairy stuff of thinking ill 'find myself' if i go a-wanderin. its just i wanna see new things! talk to different kinds of people! explore! and the unknown feeling that comes with that.

I feel like i have been lucky so far in my life, mostly due to my family. I have the urge to do something without the help of anyone else. And i think to go travelling for a bit would give me this sense of self sufficiency which i feel for 30 years hasnt been something that people think im capable of.

I doubt it will make me know myself any better or any of that. I just want to see the world! is that so wrong!? :)

oh and I did my birth hexagram stuff here http://www.hall-of-man.com/ it was the first hexagram of a few which was appointed to my birthdate.

i have to say that i definitely can relate to the idea of the wanderer. I move between people (not places- but with any luck, that'll change soon ;) ) and it is the one hexagram i can honestly say I understood completely from the off. Each line i really resonate with, and its one of the most common hexagrams i draw.

Thanks for the lovely singalong ching ching much obliged :)

on a practical note, travelling is not that expensive if you have an open mind. I know a self funded traveller that has been travelling for 3 years now, she gets odd jobs here and there to fund the next move, travels some more then find a new island to perch on, recently she help0ed start up a run an arts festival by gathering all the travelling artists in the area. She also would visit tatoo parlours wherever she went and has as a result become a trained tatoo artist.

Just dont peg travelling down to a ceratin idea of how it should be, go forth and enjoy. I've always decided I wanted to go somewhere first then focused on gathering enough money, and it always comes together.

isnt the commentray for 24.4 following dao. just follow your dao, it might be a shock but thats good.
