Happy New Year to everyone here,

I was inspired but others castings and readings for the New Year, so I decided to try this out myself. I am reluctant to read too much into the future as I like to and try to stay with the here and now. Day to day, step by step kind of thing. But I am loving to learn and as curious as a cat. So any insight to what any of you think of my reading would be great.

I asked "how can I bring success to the New Year?"
My answer is 26 great taming, lines 3 and 6 changing to 19 nearing.

First I like just the fact that 19 is nearing, as in the new year is nearing.

It seems positive to me, although I see all the advice as positive. Seems to say to me I will continue to grow and build and have success in this provided I pay close attention to what is gained and not so much attention to an outcome, also provided I am able to jump over any hurdles that come in the 8th month. Anyone have further insight to this?
As always, thank you so much for your time and consideration, I appreciate your kindness.:bows:

So the big idea of 26 is that the two yin lines withhold and tame the four yang lines. I almost see this hex as a social pyramid. You have the peasants below in the three lines, then the nobles in the next two, then the sage or sovereign at the top. Within this situation is hex 19, two yang lines tackle the four yin lines. A daunting situation is tackled head-on, and you ascend the pyramid.

The big idea seems to pertain to the workplace. Seeking a promotion, ascending the pyramid. This takes hard work and courage, but apparently pays off. I don't think the I Ching would say it if the potential for advancement wasn't there (of course, this is just my interpretation)

Also, I don't think the text of 19 literally means "the eighth month". I mean, if it did, out of all the people using the I Ching, there would be about a million constant disasters in August. I think it's more referring to the fact that 19 is a "calender hexagram", denoting the twelfth month of roughly January-February. This is the time where the yang lines could step up and face the yin lines, and assert their will. What it means by the eighth month (and this is just my pet theory), is that if this is not done, one would be at the will of circumstance, which in this case tends to be cyclical (leading eventually to the eighth month, hex 20, where the yin lines have been given enough strength that all you can do is watch as they take you over). So you'd essentially be inviting misfortune by the fact that you'd be at the mercy of the seasons. 19 indicates a time to assert yourself.

I am cleaning out my "house" and thought I would share what this reading meant for me. For the year of 2013, I see 19 as arriving and 26 as great training or great taming, as in to train or tame a horse. The horse being me. The arrival were many small and a few great trials.

Line 3 in 2013 for me meant, while pursuing in careers, life, relationships, things that I wanted. I would find harvest through hardship and determination. But I would have to mend and build fences almost daily, make carts to carry the loads, added responsibility, continuously patrol the scenes,, but through probing (investigating, evaluating, I would have harvest, the harvest would be figuring things out that would show me how to better get where I wanted to be. The harvest wouldn't always be what I wanted it to be, as some things I would decide I was tired of this hard work. I think the "easy way out" is shown by following 41. Which 26.3 would change to. I could've just sacrificed it, let it go, decreased my involvement. But then I wouldn't have learned all I had and grown quite as much. I find it was a necessary part of life. Still, maybe had I not been so determined through hardship, my lessons may have come a little easier.

26.6 I like what LiSe has on this "He carries heavens highway. Expansion." Indeed through questioning, defying, eventually insisting on experiencing or reaching a higher level or ground, one that coincides with my inner truth and light. Then I attain expansion, or could be awareness, enlightenment. Ending up on heavens highway. To be going in the right direction. I see it as, its an amazing highway to be on but doesn't come without responsibility and doesn't mean I would be able to stay on it consistently. I would stray a little, to come back, I would repeat some lessons. The "easy way out" would've been 11, just go with the flow, flow with the time. But not at all what I had in mind. I am now seeing myself as a little stubborn and defiant at times.

19, I indeed had a heart breaking hurdle to jump over, this took me down for a while. My misfortune was actually in September not August. And Ironically it was all training up til then and once I recovered, it was amazingly like being on heavens highway. I could see things I was blind to before. I felt lighter. Free even. And I couldn't believe I had put up such a struggle for so long.

Mryou1, was correct in some ways, I did ascend in my position at work. It did come with additional responsibility and little squabbles or adults acting like a child does with a parent. Testing you, testing your limits, boundaries, seeing what you can really do. Questioning your decisions. The thing was, I forgot about ascending in my job because it seemed so small, compared to the other aspects going on in my life. But it did come with rewards, the rewards are great. I am very appreciative and humbled.

So overall I see this reading as the outcome will be great, maybe not exactly all you had in mind though. And it won't be without work. At times very hard work.

I've had this hexagram recently, and Just a thought I would post an additional comment to this reading, even though I know it's almost a decade later! Let's be sure to note that August is only the 8th month according to the Gregorian calendar. I have seen many westerners on this forum get confused about the "8th month" of harvest on this hexagram. Remember, the new year in China starts somewhere between January 21 to February 20 as they are on the lunar calendar - not the Gregorian. The month of harvest is therefore October - which makes a lot more sense actually. Though I wouldn't take the months literally, as this is simply about the concept of harvest, and the imperative that we do not reap too early, it's very interesting that this querent had a misfortune in September as it turned out! Anyway, hope this helps others.
