Hi Everyone,

I wonder if you could help me with a reading that can’t grasp .
The question was “Yi, help me to understand what is going on between me and X.”

And I got 27.2.6> 19

Line 2 I think it talks about seeking or taking nourishment from an inappropriate source and line 6 that being a source of nourishment you better watch out what and how much you give. And maybe hex 19 says that I should oversee the whole situation and especially the nourishing part.

How would you interpret this reading?
Line 2 is the one I really don’t get that clear. And looking at its fan yao 41.2 :”To set things right: pitfall” it makes me more confused.

Thanks,
Maria

Sounds like you got it right, and I wouldn't stress over the meaning of a fan yao.

27.2 is seeking nourishment from a surrogate source, which doesn't really satisfy your hunger.

That's interesting... I got the same reading for a very similar question in this thread -maybe it helps. What I took from this reading was basically that Ishould start looking within what I am looking outside. In any case, I have found that it is my attitude towards the situation or relationship rather than what I get from it. Like at the end of the road nothing is good or bad, it is what we do with it what matters.

Hi Samgirl,
I'd say that it's about not being able to worry about issues. In other words try to have a foundation on what's going on, then ou'll be able to remain open to staying on solid ground.

Interesting comment. By being closer to the base of the mountain, you "have a foundation on what's going on."

Meng, the word “surrogate” you wrote makes a lot of sense and make me think that might the reading may not be exactly about this specific relationship but also about the way I relate with people. Looks like my struggle to find the right balance.
And yes, the quote of celeste’s post is really interesting. Knowing what is going on, been able to see clear what is the kind of relationship we have with another individual we are aware what we can expect and what not. I believe that knowing that, we can dissolve any illusions we have about what we can take or give in a relationship.

Thanks you . A lot of food for thought.

Maria

I took Richmond's comments in this case. He says:

Intuitive feeling is necessary for us to know our circumstances and if we cannot feel our circumstances we seek nourishment elsewhere.

Seeking nourishment from bellow is not proper
seeking nourishment from above brings evil

Both bellow and above identity in the hexagram we come to the inner, and this hexagram is about nourishing the inner through outer experience; coming to identity in the future, which is not correct or proper, not existing. To look to the inner being for nourishment is to look to what is already formed so it is narrowing or evil.

Well, now that I read it twice, I feel it more clear... This line is talking about looking for nourishment in the past or in the future, instead of nourishing with what is right here, right now. I know that feeling very well. Other writers talk about seeking nourishment on wrong things or people, but I am more inclined to think that when the I Ching talks about wrong people, inferior people or superior people, is mostly talking about part of ourselves. Following this line of thinking (or feeling) I would say that we seek nourishment lead by our ego.

Line 6 is promising, we get there, overcoming our seeking nourishment in the past or in the future (memories or fantasies) and we are in the present, nourishing ourselves with what is right now. The danger is that it is easy to lose this inner state, however, this danger is part of the natural flow of nourishment (as Richmond's says). We just need to choose from the source of nourishment -which is the present.

I loved this reading, and now I like it even more. Once we start nourishing ourselves from the source (the present), springtime approaches.

Hi Sam,

I don't use often Richmond's comments. Interesting thoughts you shared here.
I saw that line as an "out of the center" position.

Thanks again,
Maria

Hi, María:

You already know that I don't trust all the things that W/B version says.

About H.27 I believe that yi2 means something like a divination tool maybe earlier than the Shang's turtle or the Zhou's stalks, maybe a scapula, maybe a bone from an animal JAW (1)

When something is hard to understand I believe it's better to see the source:

yi2: cheeks / nourish → JAW

zhen1: divination / omen → OMEN
ji2: fortunate / lucky → LUCKY

guan1: to look at / to watch / to observe → LOOK AT
yi2: cheeks / nourish → JAW

zi4: self / oneself → YOURSELF
qiu2: to seek / to look for → SEEK
kou3 : mouth → MOUTH
shi2: real / true / honest / solid → TRUE
Temporary rendering:

LUCKY OMEN
propitiates that the omen be good

LOOK AT [the] JAW
exhorts to use the jaw as a divination tool

SEEK YOURSELF [a] TRUE MOUTH
advices you to be active
in the seeking of a true oracle

You must seek for something that tells you the truth,
a good oracle.

The second line:

dian1: inverted / upside down → UNFAVORABLE
yi2: cheeks / nourish → JAW → ORACLE

fu2: brush away → THROW
jing: sacred book / scripture → SACRED BOOKS (2)
yu2: at / to → AT
qiu1: hill / mound → MOUND

yi2: cheeks / nourish → JAW → ORACLE
zheng1: attack / trip / expedition → ATTACK
xiong1: fierce / unfortunate → FIERCE

Temporary rendering:

[If] UNFAVORABLE ORACLE
if the result seems unfavorable

THROW [the] SACRED BOOKS AT [the] MOUND
[of trash?]
discard the books, the prescribed standards
look for your own true mouth,
your own inner voice that tells you the truth

JAW ATTACK [is] FIERCE
but do not put the oracle against you
could be a vengeful enemy

... The question was “Yi, help me to understand what is going on between me and X...

What about the question? I believe that the advice is:

LOOK AT YOUR OWN HEART

If the affair goes to end bad you always can change yourself

And H.19 says: SUPREME FEAST, PROFITABLE OMEN (3)

Yours,

Charly

  • take care not to get pregnant
  • take care for having your pregnancy without trouble.

Hi Charly,
Yes I have noticed that you don't trust W/B a lot ;)

I widh I could read chinese . Must be very interesting to read from the source and not inteprentations.

Temporary rendering:

[If] UNFAVORABLE ORACLE

THROW [the] SACRED BOOKS AT [the] MOUND

discard the books, the prescribed standards

So, throw away the "prescribed standards" when they don't go along with the voice of our heart . Follow your own path.

Thanks Charly :)
