I take the license of to remove the parsing, not existing in old chinese texts.
I have some notes from Shaughnessy giving:

a) 眈(dan) = to look with eyes downcast (I deduce: tiger is shy)
b) 逐(zhu) = sad / long (being currently to hunt, to chase)

Yes, Shaughnessy has some very interesting thoughts on many old characters. Those two are definitely worth considering in this context.

It seems to me the idea that we must hunt/kill to survive is a really puzzling part of the equation, and yet it does seem a necessary part of the life experience and one that we must come to terms with if we are going to be one with God conciousness.

Anyway, particular thanks to getojack. I got a lot of understanding from your "poem."

0 Six in the fifth place means:
Turning away from the path.
To remain persevering brings good fortune.
One should not cross the great water.

Good, no bad.
Happy, no sad.
Getojack:

I think so.

This is the firsth lucky line after threee «xiong» ones. Its about goodness and happyness and about being yourself. Tiger could be sad because he isn't the Big Boss, but happy because he's still a tiger.

Luck returns when subject returns to his inner truth.

Your,

Charly

Line 5
"One chooses to reject the regular ways and instead live by way of divination. Advantageous, although one is blocked from the flow of things."

Line position 5 is controlled by hexagram 08 with its focus on passive attraction (the court, ruler, 'sun' etc). Here the attraction is to use of divination to fill in the core infrastrucuture.

From the XOR perspective, the expression of 08-ness through 27 is described by analogy to hex 42, augmentation. Of note is that determinism excludes free will and so can be inflexible, there is no flow since all is detemined.

Neuroscience work suggests consciousness has its roots in being able to suspend the influence of determinism, aka history, and as such reflects the idea of 'free will' and so able to add a random aspect to living (as tossing of coins etc tries to do with the IC)

"One chooses to reject the regular ways and instead live by way of divination..."

Wow, Chris, I'd never heard this spin before. Are you saying this because of the emphasis in 27 on the importance of one not begging for outside assistance, but on being self sufficient, going within?

The source of nourishment.
Awareness of danger brings good fortune.
It furthers one to cross the great water.

Line 6
"One has come across the root of all knowledge. Dangerous but favourable. Advantageous to instigate something."

line position 6 controlled by 23. 23 covers pruning, get back to essentials.

As such, from XOR we have the 23-ness of 27 is described by analogy to 24 and so a focus on beginning or what one keeps coming back to - and so associations with the roots etc and all of that in a context of quality control when flling in infrastructure.

Thus pruning infrastructure has nothing left but the roots, beginnings and so one needs to develop from there - instigate something.

I think Brad's cannibal analogy hits the hawk. Being a source of nourishment, they can drink you dry. So it's wise to be prudent as well as generous.

During difficult seasons, a lioness has only so much milk to give to her cubs. The ones who hunger most and fight the hardest will get to be nourished. The others will die.

(note fan yao 24.6)

Jesus offered his food freely to all, and was consumed; everyone wanting a piece of him.

Buddha conserved, and fed only those who hungered most and were willing to work for food, like the cubs.

27.6 He brought with him certain challenges. Finding he has reality other than these in the quitness of his being should not distract him from meeting them with effort.
