Dear all,

I have been having a very rough time of it lately in my job as a psychiatric nurse :(. Due to poor management and new MDs, my workplace has become more and more unstable. I’ve had a few days off now, thank goodness, but last week had to physically (and I'm hardly the tough type) help break up two patient fights, deal with patients punching holes and/or banging their heads into walls, and once had a patient try to wrestle past me to get into a restricted area. Up to three times a day, the hospital police had to be called for assistance to restrain a patient or at least provide a “show of force” in order to get someone to take medication for aggressive behavior.

Patient and staff safety on our ward has been getting worse for months now. Last month, because I was so frustrated with the way things were (not) running, I asked, “How can I best manage my anger at work within the next month?” and got 62.3>16. It helped me keep things in perspective and I was very thankful for the 62.3 “Someone may strike him.” warning line which helped keep me a look out when it became reality at the end of the month.

I don't feel financially well off enough to just up and leave this job, but eventually expect to move from the area. Since it will take time though, in the meantime, I feel it’s important to face the current situation as best as possible. Hoping for something better this month, I asked, “How may I best maintain my bearing and protect myself at work this month?” The answer 29.1>60. Probably a common inexperienced response, but reading 29.1, “In the abyss one falls into a pit. Misfortune.” just made me feel more afraid and distressed. Of course, all the positive comments in the texts also went out the window after reading that line as well (apologies to a certain person trying to help me see the texts in a more well-rounded way :)) and I was pretty shook up.

However, reading other posts has helped me calm down and see things more objectively. Mostly, I just wanted to say how grateful I am to be able to read what others have written about something like this. I hope I’m understanding it better now, in general, that the situation will continue being outwardly unpleasant, but there’s hope in solutions unique to each moment.

At the risk of leaving out other great posts, I’d also especially like to thank (even those not active on the site anymore):

Heylise for her down-to-earth, “I think 29 says there is real danger, don?t make it worse than it already is. And hex.60 tells you to give your life your own rhythm”
http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=2398

Yamabushi for his unique interpretation, “He must restrain himself from thinking that everything is lost because it will lead him right to abyss.”
http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=12682

And Icastes for the visionary take on 29, “I don't think, moreover, that 29 is flight or fight. It is really about having faith in periods of adversity when it is necessary to take a journey to change one's fortune.” http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=12107

And also Poccasin for the mystical, “No need for panic. The pit -- one's dark side -- is also the yin house, the source of the waters of ancestral influence in the unconscious mind. If your project needs inspiration and imagination, 29 implies you may expect help from hidden sources.”
http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=10470

And all (Carin, Topal, Bruce-g, Willowfox, Trojan, Rosada, Listener, Heylise) who participated in this amazing thread about 29 in general... http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=4019

Also Rosada's following post – wow, this is SO great, an incredibly awesome gem which seemed to bear repeating in the Shared Readings section!

I asked the I Ching, "What should be one's attitude before consulting?" and received

The Abyss 29.1.3.5 - Peace 11.

I interpret this to mean..

29.
IF YOU ARE SINCERE, YOU HAVE SUCCESS IN YOUR HEART AND WHAT EVER YOU DO SUCCEEDS.

So, intention is the key thing in consulting the I Ching (and perhaps not to worry because you can't get it wrong?).

29.1
IN THE ABYSS ONE FALLS INTO THE PIT.
Perhaps this is advising not spending much time dwelling on the problem.

29.3
FORWARD AND BACKWARD, ABYSS ON ABYSS.
IN DANGER LIKE THIS, PAUSE AT FIRST AND WAIT,
OTHERWISE YOU WILL FALL INTO A PIT IN THE ABYSS,
DO NOT ACT IN THIS WAY.
Perhaps this is advising not that you not be too worried about trying to form exactly the right question. Perhaps to just be aware of the situation, pause, and then do the toss?

29.5
THE ABYSS IS NOT FILLED TO OVERFLOWING,
IT IS FILLED ONLY TO THE RIM.
NO BLAME.
Perhaps this line is advising asking a question that will provide just enough insight for the next best move.

This hexagram then changes to
11. Peace
THE SMALL DEPARTS,
THE GREAT APPROACHES.
GOOD FORTUNE. SUCCESS.
Says forming a question is to quiet the mind, and when the question is complete our small mind is then able to connect with the Great Mind and receive the answer?
---

I then asked what our attitude should be when receiving an answer and got GRACE 22.1.5 - GRADUAL DEVELOPEMENT 53. This suggests to me that if we make a small effort to take in the reading it will be like a seed planted in our brains and we will see the new insight gradually developing in our lives - without our having to make a great mental effort to direct or even understand.

The last couple of days I have been wondering where you have been - so It's nice to hear you are still around although I am sorry for you to be going through such a traumatic experience/s.

I will not add my interpretation as it seems you have been reading from some of the best.

The beauty of this site and it's willing helpers never ceases to amaze me.

Hope you get some peacefulness from all this soon. - Liss

Thank you for your kind words, Liss. It's so good to come in from the cold a bit. Actually, I have a feeling that peace as a state of mind is meant to be a part of this learning experience, so it ties in well. Good thought :). IG
